I enjoy watching the downfall of the Celtics (:

  2. IntelligentQuickley

Charity award dpoy, literally won his award to boost currys legacy. Celtics fell ass backwards into the finals then let the dpoy play drop coverage on himšŸ’€

  3. WalkingThePlanes

Michael Jordan won a DPOY as a guard

  4. SquimJim

The best part about trading Smart is that fans from other teams can finally appreciate him for what he actually is and not just clown on him because he’s on the Celtics.

  5. Capereli

Biggest accomplishment for the Celtics since 08

Tony Allen – Played College Ball at Oklahoma State – Traded from Celtics to Grizz – Defensive Gawd

Marcus Smart – Played College Ball at Oklahoma State – Traded from Celtics to Grizz – Defensive Gawd

What is his Celtic legacy going to be?

  8. IamLegend840

Iā€™ve always liked his game minus the flopping. Itā€™s funny how everyone thought heā€™d be a Drose/Russ kind of PG when he was coming to the NBA.

  9. Lake_Shore_Drive

He won the same way Embiid won MVP, the east coast media Mafia

  10. muhammad_oli

It’s between him and Tyson chandler imo

Should just play the end of that Rockets game a few years ago when Smart totally broke James Hardens soul.

  12. renegradermax

Today I learned Michael Jordan and Sidney Moncrief donā€™t exist

  13. pdizzzzzz

Smart isnā€™t a difference maker. Especially in the playoffs šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

  14. AleroRatking

He then followed it by completely missing the all defensive teams.

  15. Classicponyboy

Half of Marcus’s defense plays are flops looool

  16. VicePope

i refuse to say anything nice about him

    Joke of a DPOY

[Smart was +22000 odds to win DPOY on March 12th last year](https://www.sportsbettingdime.com/nba/2022-defensive-player-of-the-year-odds/). For those of you who donā€™t do betting odds, thatā€™s about 0.5% implied odds. Yes, less than 1% chance he would win.

Same date, Rob had the 5th best odds. Rob then proceeds to get hurt about a week and a half later.

On March 29th, Smart was suddenly +173 to win DPOY. I wonder why his odds jumped from +22000 (not even in the running) to +173 (the DPOY favorite) **in just 2 weeks?** Can you guess which day the Celtics announced Rob had a torn meniscus? [March 28th](https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/nba/boston-celtics/report-robert-williams-out-several-weeks-with-torn-meniscus/206395/?amp=1).

Smart was not even close to being in the running until Rob got hurt, then when it was announced Rob would miss weeks, Smart suddenly was the favorite. Lmao.

Only point guard? There was at least one shooting guard that won the award, back in 1988…

don’t call him a guard if you wish, but I still think Simmons should have won it for 2020-21. He was an elite-on ball defender who could play defend inside and outside. He was perhaps the only player in the league that could defend 1 through 5 at an elite rate.
He came in second to Gobert who has been routinely exposed in the playoffs by his lack of ability to switch and do anything other than sit under the rim.

I miss how much sliding space there was in the bubble

  22. luvvdmycat

    Congrats Memphis!

You got your new Dillon Brooks.

  23. Imzocrazy

Am I the only one that thinks he wasnā€™t even the best defensive player on that team when he won the award

  24. Custrdw4lrus

Did you mean point guard? Sidney Moncrief was a shooting guard and he won it twice.

  25. ParsnipPizza

Oh yeah now you all want to praise him

  26. uziman55

I swear in that Boston vs Miami series, when Boston needed a bucket, Smart ended up to be the one to hit the 3 to get the momentum going and make the offense start moving. For all of his hustle, his offensive game is nice too.

Iā€™m just here for the English language chat:

I read ā€œafterā€ as ā€œaside fromā€ or ā€œother thanā€ as in theyre the only 2 guards that have ever won it.

Youā€™d need to tag ā€œafter Gary Payton *won it*ā€ or something to signify that youā€™re talking about a date or event.

  28. PocoborH2

Only if he wasnā€™t a cry baby flopper.

  29. Aggravating-Swing836

Iā€™m a Celtics fan but Marcus was the only player I actually liked to watch. This sucks

  30. Particular_Ad_4761

Now do the ones where he sends himself flying and flailing.

  31. waffelman1

The west pulling out all the stops to get past the nuggets

  32. Sufferix

Only guard to win DPOY who should not have.
