There are legitimate basketball reasons to avoid the 2nd tax but not the 1st tax, I am no longer giving Tony the benefit of doubt. 90% of championship teams play the lux tax.

As much as I want to be mad at this I can’t. If we plan on keeping DJ, he’s gonna command at least $30-40 million aav, OO is a restricted free agent coming up, if we plan on keeping Saddiq, he’s gettin paid too. This isn’t a surprise but this is not a contending team. A soft rebuild is what’s needed if we stand any chance at actually being contenders. We could go trade assets like JJ, AJ, Saddiq, etc. but unless we actually are doing it for a legitimate third option, I just look at these as lateral moves. I’m reserving judgement and hoping Quin can unlock something out of this team that we never had before in previous head coach, but our coffers were managed poorly and this is what it comes to.

Why exactly should we stay in the tax with this current roster? A couple guys are overpaid and we have a few players that need to get paid soon. I’ll say the same thing I said last year, going into the tax as a play in team is crazy

it’s so disingenuous to say you want to win, have your best player talking about championships, while the whole league has you over a barrel sending low-ball offers they’ll have to accept at some point for financial reasons.

Not that I really care about Ressler’s money, but as the roster currently stands, it makes sense. There is no reason for him to pay the LT for where we are. It only makes sense if we can package current players for another that makes us a contender.
Our owner is the worst. What’s the point of having a team if you’re never wanting to actually compete. Makes me feel sick to my stomach as a fan if I’m being honest. This isn’t how sports should be played out.

Ah like clockwork “get better but spend less money” we’re gonna stay mid with that mentality.
I think a lot of this is poor ownership decisions and the fact we have not had any other of our lottery picks have notable developments in their game( outside of Trae). We were in the lottery for about 3 seasons, and truthfully our luck ran out that we didn’t get actually top picks. We got too greedy and tried to rush the process, and as a result we stopped prioritizing player development AT ALL for winning. Again, I’m hoping Quin can pull something out of these guys that we’ve never seen before but I can’t bank on that in the actual first year of his system.
