Tobias is worth 1/3 of his salary, but Celtics treating PJ like Ben Simmons was the main reason for our offensive struggles. A Tobi for guards trade makes this problem much worse

I appreciate PJ for what he brings, but starting from game 2 they stopped guarding PJ altogether and PJ can’t really punish them because his rim touch is horrible and he’s a hesitant shooter.

Game 6 they took it to another level, completely selling out PJ in the corner by having Timelord guard him, then destroy our PNR action. [This video ](https://youtu.be/dSzqzNQi_A8) by thinking basketball highlights it pretty well (as well as Doc’s ridiculous and stationary offense making it much easier to double and triple Embiid / Harden).

This is the main reason I don’t get the people wanting Tobias traded for guards, it’d leave us with a forward deficit with a guy who had us playing 4v5 on offense. Tobias is way overpaid, but he wasn’t actively killing our offense. PJ can still have a good role on a title team, but he was much worse in the Boston series

Don’t you know we have Nieng? Should have played him 35+ min every game! I am sure he could provide more defense and rebound than Tobi.

Joke aside. Tobi is overpaid, but we don’t have a better alternative. That’s why I tolerate him.

I think you trade Tobi for at least one player who could replace Tucker in the starting lineup. Preferably you trade him for a 3 and a 4 so that they can start and defend and tucker and melton can come off the bench. But I’m dreaming at this point.

this is the problem with this team. too many uni taskers. Tobias is our only wing who is serviceable on both ends. i like PJ but he just cannot be playing starters minutes with how talented the league is.

we are desperate for playable wings, which is crazy because we are literally just looking for someone who can hit an open 3 or attack a close out against a center.

Yeah Tobias definitely wasn’t a part of killing our offense!!

I don’t think anyone wants to trade him for guards. We want wings.

  6. Deadboy90

Tobi is a starting PF. If we trade him for anything other than a starting PF we are worse.

  7. bladeofdeceit

I can’t believe the entire fan base shit on Ben Simmons for offense and said we were playing 4 on 5 and then replaced him with a person with the exact same offensive acumen.

I have yet to see any realistic trade that moves the needle and makes us a contender. We really need to just accept that 2024 isn’t our year. Keep tobi, rest Embiid like half the year, and wait till next offseason to do anything.

  9. eaglesphan1

I totally agree but I think to solve this problem PJ needs to come off the bench and play strictly with James in the second unit. We need straight shooters and off ball movers when Joel and James are on the court together

  10. FreeProfit

What you don’t like all the fan trade scenarios where we ship Tobi for 3 mediocre guards that will never see any playing time because of how our current lineup is constructed?

  11. Bajecco

It’s not as simple as “trading bum Tobi for guards won’t help”. It will help in the long run because breaking Harris’s contract down into multiple contracts gives Morey far more flexibility to fix roster flaws in season. In a theoretical Tobi for Hield/TJ trade, the only facet of Harris’s game that would be missed is his ability to competently guard some 4’s. That’s it.

  12. Fun fact-

Tobias was 7/27 from 3 in the Celtics series. PJ was 11/25.

It’s astounding to me that someone can call a role player our ***main*** issue when the league MVP who had something like a top-3 season of all-time in points/100 went from 33ppg on 66%TS in the regular season to 25ppg on 55%TS and showed 0 heart in game 7 with an awful A:TO and didn’t even average 10 rebounds. Our second option James Harden was either Jesus on the court or a G-Leaguer(most of the time, a G-Leaguer).

PJ could be better for sure, but goddamn how do people still look at us and say something like that could be the MAIN REASON we lost?

Our stars fall the fuck off in the playoffs. That’s main reason why we lose. Nikola Jokic, Jimmy Butler, those guys elevated their games. A lot of players maintained who they were or also elevated. Our guys get *worse*.

can we get back saric? i havent seen him played for a while tho

Mcdaniels needs to get real run. Our only hope.
