You could point to the Knicks trading for Rose as being a turning point for the franchise.
I know some people had some complicated feelings with his off the court history which is fair enough, but as far as his Knicks tenure goes his attitude kept the team steady last season with all the lineup changes. Fournier and Cam Reddish can’t be upset about playing time when the former MVP is accepting it.

His journey with the Knicks may not be over.

Derrick Rose was the PG we needed, before Brunson. He willed us to our first playoff appearance and win in almost a decade. Randle was great, but he couldn’t do it alone.
Since we got killed by the Hawks in the playoffs people tend to wash away the pandemic season, but without that playoff run, Knicks never get the legitimacy they need to go out and sign a player like Jalen Brunson.
The first run with Rose in 2016 left a bad taste in my mouth. He was one of my favorite non-Knick players and I thought him and Melo could make noise, but it was a season of drama and disappointment.
In 2021 Rose came back here and completely redeemed himself. As is the story of his career it is a shame he could hold up longer, but giving the last of his basketball talent, in the twilight of his career, he pushed the Knicks back into relevancy and for that I will always be grateful.

Never forget when Hornacek finally let Rose run the offense and he scored 30 in a win over the Celtics, and Phil Jackson immediately called to berate the team for not running enough triangle. Happy his second stint was closer to what the first should have been.

A true legend. One of the saddest career arcs because of his unfortunate injury history but would love to see him as a mentor and a coach one day for us. I hope if he doesn’t want to coach that someone gives this man a vet min deal just to have him around giving his all whenever he’s on the court.

Feel like he’ll be back on a minimum deal as a mentor.
