DeMar himself isn’t the problem. It’s the fact that we’re built around the big 3 of Zach/DeMar/Vooch, it’s such a faulty foundation.
Since all three of them are such poor defenders and only contribute on the offensive end, we have to surround them with athletic defensive specialists who can’t shoot like Caruso, DJJ, Ayo, and Javonte. It led to a top 10 defense, but in turn led to having the worst spacing in the league and one of the worst offenses in the league because the big 3 hasn’t been able to overcome the lack of shooting.
We’re left praying for internal improvement in the shooting department, which was essentislly confirmed during the post-draft presser. By adding shooting through trade or FA, it will come at the cost of the players that have been anchoring our defense. True two way players (like Lonzo was) aren’t easy to find or cheap, so we’re banking on developing athletic defenders, like Julian Phillips, into good shooters.
