If Nets lose Cam, what do you hope we do?

$100m+ for Cam is outrageous, but we have 0 flexibility to make moves in the next two years and holes at both PG and PF (not to mention backup C).

If we lose Cam, what next?

    I think we match anything.

But if we DO lose him, I’d say there’s more of a chance DFS and Royce stay put. More likely we try to sign someone like Naz Reid to anchor the front court.

I’m not worried about Cam though. He stay

    Would absolutely match.

Just take it down to the deadline so the pistons cap room is locked up as long as possible.

It may be negative at the end but his shooting is necessary.

Honestly, I wouldn’t hate to have the flexibility to go after a lesser star like Lavine. You can’t do Mikal, CJ, Lavine, and Clax. Way too much money for too low of a ceiling. If we spend big on Cam, you have to get a real big fish like Dame and hope for the best. You can’t mess around with lesser stars.

But, if you subtract Cam, now you can enter that Lavine or Dejounte market without fearing the financial consequences. That actually gives you a path to a big 3. Trade for Lavine/Murray and then dangle Clax and leftover picks for a 3rd star.

I’ll let him walk, or arrange some sign and trade options. Not only you are overpaying a role player for 4 years, you are killing any trade value Cam could have in the market in the future. Not to mention that you are going to be spending 100M next year between Cam, Claxton and Simmons. Quite a Big 3.

Why give Cam Johnson 30 million when Kyle Kumza is asking for the same.

. Let him go. It’s not a sustainable option to have that contract for four years. He’s a role player. 30 million a year for a role player is asinine and will be untradable in a year and will set a potential rebuild back at least four years. Fuck that.

I mean, better than getting stuck with a mammoth contract. But also I really like him, so hopefully we can keep him on a reasonable salary

Let him walk. Do a sign-and-trade with DET (2 future 2nd rounders come back BKN’s way).

Then concentrate on getting DeJounte Murray + whomever ATL wants to dump on the Nets cap here.

If it comes down on it and CJ is “replaced” in the Nets cap by De’Andre Hunter or John Collins, I won’t hate it. I won’t be thrilled, but to me it’s worth DeJounte Murray.

With the cap going up I don’t know what becomes an untradeable contract in 2/3 years. I think the Nets look long and hard because we are in no position to lose talent for nothing and Detroit has zero reason to do a sign and trade with us.

It will be a painful year if DFS and Royce are eating up all of Cams minutes.
