I think this is going to age well. I’ve done a pretty deep dive on Bates (obviously followed him from years back) and it’s absolute insanity that he fell to us. You can hate the pick all you want (which is stupid because it’s a late 2nd) but you’ll be eating crow before too long.
I’m not afraid to give my opinion… my opinion is that he has the chance to be one of the best players in this class. I think he’s been humbled and he’s still just a kid. He’s 19… he is FAR from a finished product.
He reminds me of a taller, less athletic Jalen Green with a better shot. If we can get this guy open in the corner, he’s hitting it.
He needs to improve shot selection and defense. Both of those things are teachable. He doesn’t have to be a lock down defender either — just able to put effort on that side of the ball.
His ceiling is extremely high, there’s never been a pick this late that had this much obvious upside.
Only time will tell.

I love the hype, but I can’t help but feel like Gilbert Arenas is actually making the case for why Gilbert Arenas should have been a lottery pick.

The pick is amazing because if he sucks it was pick 49 and costs nothing.. but if he can be like a trevor ariza Stephen jackson type player it’s an absolute steal and anything more is gravy
