The Dallas Mavericks have drafted Duke center Dereck Lively II with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. They have also traded the 10th pick and Davis Bertans to the Thunder. KG, Reggie and Duke superfan Kevin Hageland react to the news.

I don't understand why people who are at least more aware of the Mavs than a casual fan keep crying about Lively's offense. You are aware of Dwight Powell right? You do know that Dwight is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO inept on offense that he looks scared & awkward whenever he's given the ball for a handoff. So Dwight is so useless on offense that you don't even want him HOLDING ONTO the ball. And yet, Luka is able to get him like 8 points a night.
So yeah, as long as Luka is on this team I really don't give a flying F what skills the Big Man has on offense. We've seen what it looked like when Luka did have an offensively skilled big man and it was good for like 15 games before it was useless.
And I have seen people saying "Lively is just KP without the shot" and uhhh without the 37 million a year & injury concerns. So yeah, why can't you just be happy that Dallas does have a rim protecting big man again? So what if he can't shoot like KP. That's why Dallas has Kyrie.
I’m not that worried about the scoring. As long as he can play D and rebound, I’m good. Catching a lob here or there would be nice! Now we just need to figure out how to get a wing man!
Cry about lack of defense and lack of post presence
Also cry when they draft a guy to potentially help fix those problems.

A+++++ and oh poor Dirk….you know he was sitting watching this draft and thinking to himself, maybe even out loud…WHERE WAS NICO DURING MY PLAYING DAYS??????????? Could possibly be one of the top 5 best Mavs drafts ever if everything pans out like we all hope it should.
All I will say is Rudy Golbert didnt cost all of those 1st round picks for his offense and bc he can knock down 3’s. A+ pick. An elite defensive center is exactly what we needed. Don’t overthink it.

Kevin sounds like he's trying to Reinvent the wheel. No one said Lively was an Offensive Player Right Now. Think of Tyson Chandler. Tyson is Not an Offensive Player either.
When he learns rolling with Luka and gets confident shooting from 3, he is going to be a beast, he has all the tools to be a great 5 specially to play with Luka.
