NBA Exec Says ‘Nobody Wants’ Otto Porter Jr.; SF Owed $6.3M

Michael Grange of SportsNet reported the Raptors have sought to trade Porter but cannot find a taker.

“Nobody wants Otto Porter Jr.,” said one league executive. “He’s frail. He’s always a layup away from being out six to eight weeks.”

Hopefully he comes off the bench and plays well for us.

Translation: “Raptors tried to trade him and no one is biting”

Can’t say I blame anyone when they dude played less than 10 games for us late year

I’m holding out hope he can find a way to stay on the floor. With the addition of Dick, and Gary coming back, hopefully some more consistent shooting from OG we we could be looking at a much improved offence

Yeah understandable, has nothing to do with the money and the fact he is never healthy. He’s a good player just never available.

  5. absolutkaos

all he needs to be able to do is play a serviceable 4-10mpg

I’m not even mad at OPJ’s contract. $6.3M & one-year left for a chance at decent bench production isn’t bad at all. Meanwhile…

    Bradley Beal: $197M / 4 years remaining

    Rudy Gobert: $131M / 3 years remaining

    John Collins: $78M / 3 years remaining

    Ben Simmons: $77M / 2 years remaining

    Tobias Harris: $39M / 1 year remaining

    Davis Bertans: $33M / 2 years remaining

    Gordon Hayward: $31M / 1 year remaining

Kinda surprised the warrior’s wouldn’t look to bring him back. While it was an anomaly season for him to be healthy, he was and a good fit with them.

I will say when he played for the team we had a much better record lol. I do think we missed his shooting the issue is nick nurse wanted to play him 20+ minutes a game and he isnt built for that

  9. If he’s able to stay healthy he can be a very good piece for our team. Him and Gradey would be incredible for the shooting

That’s baloney. I feel like Golden State would take him back in a heartbeat. Lakers too. I could see him slotting in anywhere.

  11. zetcetera

Eh, we’ll see how he fairs this year injury wise and under Darko

I should have mentioned that the article does say teams might be willing to take a chance on a vet minimum contract.

I was actually excited when he signed…💀

It’s probably Boucher that needs to be moved. Higher cap hit and a team would likely actually want him.

If we can keep Fred and Poeltl’s first year cap hits fairly low though then Flynn may be enough to keep us under the tax

I’m also one layup away from being injured. I can totally relate haha

Dead weight since he got here Jesus Christ.

Both Otto and to a lesser extent but still terrible Thad Young are basically useless

Neither signing made sense for us

Thad was clearly brought in to keep the locker room vibes stable and he failed miserably in the vet locker room stability role

  18. jamiecballer

That’s fine because he is a steal if he manages to be healthy next season and doesn’t make enough to be worth trying to simply dump

We got catfished so hard lol

I don’t blame others for not wanting a guy who is questionable to play every night. But at the same time it’s on him to provide 20 minutes of consistent shooting and defense in order to increase his value as it’s a contact season for him. A lot of guys are miraculously able to play well and stay healthy when lots of money is on the table, so we’ll see.

  21. Sheparoni_On_Spotify

We didn’t want him either. Masasi did. Guy had one half a season in 6 years.

  22. _Gourmand

I’m worried the Raptors still think a couple tweaks here and there will lead us to a title. Trying to trade Otto Porter when he’s the least of our problems in terms of fixing our team for the future is crazy. I’d rather keep him and if he’s healthy, he could be solid.

Honestly, as a kings fan I would be willing to take a stab at him. We need wings/forwards that can defend and spread the floor like he can. How many years do he have on his contract? Like 2? What would it take to thread the needle on this? How bad was his injury?
