Brian Windhorst & the hoop collective -Jazz were a “silent bidder” for porzingis, have interest in Kuzma and another power forward who will be traded (John Collins?)

This would marry up with what Tony Jones has been saying on Twitter in that the Jazz want to be good next year in order to convey their pick from the favours salary dump to OKC in what has been described as a weak draft. Granting greater future pick flexibility in regards to trading and drafting in stronger draft classes.

It would also seemingly suggest we don’t view Hendricks as an immediate impact player and he and the other rookies may take a similar path of Agbaji of a combination of g league and small roles off the bench initially.

Also would suggest the coaching staff are pretty comfortable with Lauri ability to guard on the perimeter, pretty excited to see the continuation of the bigger lineups if this is the case, with skilled athletic guys that can shoot

The Tony Jones speculation about the pick is really stupid.

The top 5 of 2024 is horrible, but depth wise, it’s going to be fine.

There’s no reason to want to give away a mid first now versus a future year.

We just need a point guard who can average 7 assists, not really Kuzma. I guess Olynyk gets traded, because we’d have 3 Power Forwards with Taylor, Kyle, and Kelly if Kyle signs here

The only reason I’d want John Collins, is if it’s a Collin, and Kelly for Murray, and John Collins trade. Hawks get off John Collins, Jazz get a defensive point guard who can average 8 assists.

Kelly played better than Collins last year, and is on a better contract

I wonder if these were mainly conversations happening before the draft. Maybe we were expecting to get Bilal or Anthony Black, and thought we might trade Olynyk on draft night. Otherwise, I don’t really understand why we would load up on 4s…

A move like this shouldn’t be surprising. When Ainge was with the Celtics he drafted Brown and Tatum in back to back year while also adding Horford, Kyrie, and Hayward. He wants the young guys to develop in a competitive setting and then take over when they’re ready.

Building up cap space to target Porzingjs, Kuzma, or John Collins is a huge letdown.

Hmm. Not sure how I feel about this, Kuzma will command about 30/4. I just don’t feel like the forward spot is an area of need, we need guards.

Unless the plan is to send out some forwards for a quality guard 🤔

I like that Ainge is going all in on a position less roster. Boston was the original blue print but feels like he has the draft assets (also times have changed more bigs can play non-center) to make it happen. A team full of big ass floor spacers sounds amazing.

I feel like the Jazz as a franchise are extremely hesitant to put a rookie in a starting position, it feels like they would much rather have a veteran as the starter and then slowly integrate the rookie in the starting position (a la Olynyk being the starting center at the beginning of the season, but Walker slowly getting minutes added and eventually being the starting center). Heck even Donovan was supposed to be a backup to Rodney Hood, but then Hood ended up getting a case of the yips and just fizzled out on us.

I can still see (and very much want) Hendricks to be the starting PF come December, but the front office looking for a veteran PF to begin the season as the starter and then have Hendricks “earn” the starting position is very much in line with what they’ve done in the past.

So I’m unintelligent when it comes to the technicalities of basketball picks and cap space and all that stuff. So can someone explain to me what they mean when they say “convey their pick”?
