Said it before, but putting out that you might let him go makes it less likely for someone who doesn’t actually want to pay him the max to throw it at him just to screw you over.

*”The reason the Lakers were so high on both guards is they saw them as potential replacements for Reaves should an offer sheet price them out of bringing the restricted free agent back, league sources tell Lakers Nation.”*

I hope FO won’t put a limit on how much offer they’d match.

They better not let this man Austin go

Yes a 17th pick is going replace a starting guard on a Lebron squad who the franchise is prepared to give 100 mil too /s infinitely more likely we go Star hunting again if Hillbilly leaves.

I’ll be honest I don’t ever believe anything that is posted by any lakers site. I never see them post breaking news or insider info before anyone else. They are always behind and only post articles. So to me this is just straight speculation and don’t believe they have any real high connected source

I love Trevor Lane and LN but i just really don’t believe this at all. Maybe they have a bad source because i don’t believe they would make things up but i just feel like there’s zero chance he leaves

Lol lakers aren’t letting Reaves go and definitely wouldn’t count on JHS being our 3rd best player in a playoff environment.

If anything two dudes who can pick and roll handle, make good decisions, and be good defenders they’re going to fit really well next to each other.

  9. Lakers1790

classic lakers nation made up article

  10. jonbemerkin

If you are taking this serious I feel bad for you, like come on lmao.

When’s the last time a Lakers source posted legitimate news?

    Lol.

  12. KingNephew

Confident they’ll match. JHS will be a guy that will grow to compliment Reaves over time imo.

  13. betterthanhalf

I remember LN posting Buha. Not a great source imo

  14. Ranieboy

If this ever gonna happen might as well sell the team and go for a full rebuild.

  15. he seems like he has a similar skill set to DLo, so a DLo replacement seems more reasonable, especially if they intend to keep Reaves

Slow news day, just want you to click on all the AD’s at LN.

Lakers better match offers for Reaves like Rob said he would for 2 reasons.

1.) Everyone remember the shitstorm that happened after we let Caruso walk? We got lucky with Austin, but we let Caruso walk in favor of THT and we still ended up trading him! I’drather not gamble a 3rd time.

2.) Alleviate added pressure from JHS. If by some misfortune Austin leaves and JHS’ game doesn’t translate to the pro’s right away, I can already see the “WE GAVE UP REAVES FOR THIS?!” comments from Lakers fans. That’s some pressure to be under when you just started your professional career.

  18. It’s either AR or Dlo imo. I don’t think this ownership wants to spend big money for both.

If Austin is out, so am I. I will jump off a cliff

  20. blacPanther55

Sound like some clickbait BS and I like Trevor.

  21. blacPanther55

Austin Reaves is vastly overrated by fans but I don’t think that the Lakers are willing to lose him.

  22. Scarface238

I think the real answer is it’s a partial truth that applies long term

First, Lakers are 100% retaining Reaves. The only question is if it’s a $50m deal or $100m.

It’s the latter that I think the Lakers are planning for. As we all know of the RFA status, Reaves on a $100m deal will only cost us about $12m per for the next two years. Then balloons to like $35m per the last two years.

So they play it out over the next two years with Reaves on a team friendly deal. Now let’s assume he doesn’t get any better and in fact let’s say he takes a step back. The Lakers will look to trade him in year for the right deal or dump him completely in year 4 to some team with cap space and that’s where JHS would take over.

Lakers get to develop JHS as a Reaves replacement two years from would be the plan.

But if Reaves improves and gets better then they’d keep him on that deal (maybe) and move JHS in some other package (only if both those players are truly redundant to each other). Either way that’s a problem to worry about two years from now.

There is no way shape or form that Reaves is not a Lakers next season (unless some Dame or equivalent deal materializes)
