It was only a few years ago Emoni Bates was considered the #1 pick in his class, things didn’t go well for him in college but I believe Emoni Bates has the potential to be one of the greatest second round draft picks in NBA history. Right up there with Nikola Jokic.

I made a big mistake in this video, I repeatedly said Michigan State throughout the video when Emoni actually attended Eastern Michigan. As an non-american, all the colleges can get confusing, especially when they are both from michigan, and wear green and white!
I understand there is a difference in competition between Michigan State and Eastern Michigan, however it doesn't change my stance on Emoni at all, I still stand on everything I said in this video, I still think he was slept on and is going to prove everybody wrong in the NBA.

There are a lot of "ifs". The reality is this young mans discipline got in the way of his productivity. There are no such things as 'STEALS' in the NBA. NBA scouts are very good at what they do. You are what your draft number says that you are. How hard you work to prove that evaluation wrong is solely up to the player. Just look at Nikola Jockic, his hard work and determination willed him to the top of the NBA, and he didn't even have any of the distractions that Bates self inflicted. The fact that he would rather play with guns rather than work on his craft is a huge character flaw. He will never get that time back that he wasted. Time will tell how his career ends up. 2nd rounders don't become 2nd rounders by accident.

I think you should edit the video. Most people who watch the video won't read your comment. In the United States, people know there is a huge difference between Eastern Michigan and Michigan State. Emoni's shooting could overcome his lack of strength. I was surprised he dropped so low, especially the way that the modern NBA values three point shooting so much.

True story!! I remember yrs ago when he was the nxt big thing.
High school ball isn't college ball and college ball is not the pros. That's why. Bates is a volume scorer. In high school he always had the ball in his hands and he got lots of shots. Same in AAU ball. He went to college (too early) and he was lost. His shooting was no good. Defense was better against him. And he shot 40% FG and 30% 3PT. That kind of shooting just doesn't fly in the pros. And to top it off he does not have a pro body at all. He's wiry thin. So he won't be able to defend and he can't muscle shots up. Unless he can shoot close to 50% FG and 40% 3PT in the pros, he's going to really struggle. All that high school hype just won't do it for him.
