[Clutch Points] [The Blazers] felt like picking [Scoot Henderson] was better than any other trades that could have been had… They’re trying to sell to Dame that they’re not in a rebuild.”

This was Chris Haynes talking about the meeting Lillard has/had with the Blazers today, and how they should approach their offseason. Jerami Grant seems like a lock to be back, but otherwise it’s up in the air.

Portland is ridiculous. Stop pairing dame with small guards. Holy fuck how many times are you gonna do the same thing?

  2. BBallHunter

That squad is gonna be good for 35 wins max, let’s be real here.

  3. iCOULDbewr0ng

That money Dame brings in every season from ticket sales must be too sweet to give up

While we’ll never know for sure it sure seems to be the case that the value of drafting a player like scoot was better than say a 1-2 year rental of a player (I.e. Siakam) . If rumors were to be believed they did offer a package around the 3 for Bridges to BKN but they rejected the offer. I think that was the type of deal Portland was looking for and more than happy to keep the pick to get a top prospect.

“*You see Dame these young guys actually have 3 days until retirement. They’re bringing some real grit to this core!*”

    Next years draft reportedly stinks

  7. DW_Jitters

Dame will play 60 games. Portland will shut him down for a better pick.

Rinse and repeat. Must be tiresome for Blazers fans, honestly.

  8. So he’s gonna stay and we’re gonna go through all this again at the deadline and next offseason? There’s not any moves for Portland to make to just magically become a contender with their current roster.

  9. VeniceRapture

How much of a roster overhaul would it take to get the Blazers into title contention? Can you make that trade with the 3rd pick?

  10. Agent_of_the_N1ne

When are NBA fans going to realize the Blazers don’t actually give a shit about winning a chip with Dame? Not all owners or franchises go out to win it all with their guy. Blazers owner knows this team is going nowhere and will just be happy for a 1st round exist

  11. HasswatBlockside

Don’t think of this as a rebuild. Think of it as an opportunity to potentially be competitive a few years from now assuming untested rookies pan out!

  12. LUUUUUUUUUUKEEE

I think they can get a good haul for dame during the season. But Miami wouldn’t be able to offer anything of interest. Is Tyler herro really worth much? I doubt it.

I think New Orleans potential in season offer could be better even without Zion or Ingram. Along with either of the NY teams and Minnesota

  13. There is just no way we can make that argument unless he’s telling Dame about a pending Ayton trade or some shit. No one could look at this roster and think it’s going to be remotely competitive.

“Dame we drafted another PG who needs the ball in his hands to be effective. I know you’re the star player on the team but taking the ball out of your hands and giving it to a rookie to make more decisions is truly championship level basketball.”

  15. KuyaJohnny

thats hard to believe if the blazers are just collecting young guards lol

  16. FallaciousRationale

With Chauncey Billups, they won’t reach the play-in again.

They need a competent head coach and they need to sort the guard logjam out.

  17. spidersilva09

They’re gonna have to overpay Grant to keep Lillard happy and I feel like that’s how you know the writing is really on the wall.

  18. s_malik25

At this point it’s up to Dame to formally make the trade request if he actually does want out. Blazers are comfortable letting him waste his last years on a rebuilding team

  19. PlumCantaloupe

Well, they can try I guess. Unless Scoot is Magic Johnson in his first year it is hard to see it though lol.

  20. Quickzoom

It’s not like scoot all of a sudden loses his value now that he’s been drafted. There may be another team that decides to blow it up mid season and would love to add a player like scoot

  21. TheWestRemembers

Bro this is like watching your fine ass friend with a cool personality (Dame) get cheated on constantly but feeling powerless to change their relationship. “Babe, I swear I’ll never trade Josh Hart for Cam Reddish again.” “Scoot will be good for us, I swear.”

  22. SaulPepper

We still don’t know how the 2023 draft class pans out but its weird to think that this problem would have been minimized A LOT had Hornets taken Scoot rather than Miller. Portland would most likely draft Miller, he would have added size to Portland and is touted as a plug and play prospect. Of course that would also cause problems with the Hornets with Lamelo basically losing minutes at PG and becoming a SG at some points in the game but its too much hypothetical to talk about.

Butterfly effect is just crazy as hell.

  23. boomeroni1234

I like the blazers calling Dames bluff, like if he wants out make him say he wants out.

  24. Background_Action_92

I guess Dame has to be a big boy demand a trade. This poverty franchise just wants to squeeze out everything that Dame has. I mean the Trailblazers will be a meandering team for the foreseeable future

  25. Viciouscauliflower21

You’re not rebuilding, you’re not a contender, wtf are you? Aside from just collecting a nice chunk of change in keeping your star attraction around. Which…I guess is good enough if that’s your priority. He’s made it clear he’s not leaving so it’s not like you’ve got that hanging over your head. Why not just enjoy the cash out just like he is

  26. WobbleKun

the guy is 33. there’s not gonna be much can kicking years left. they’re asking dame essentially to be the #2 or #3 guy in 3-4 years to finally be a contending team lol. kinda sad for a franchise superstar.

  27. PM_ME_YOUR_EUKARYOTE

The Blazers are in the bargaining stage I see.

  28. BehavioralSink

    We’re not rebuilding, we’re reloading. There’s a difference!

(I have no idea what that difference might be…)

  29. CNDOTAFAN

Trying to sell to Dame that they aren’t in a rebuild by drafting/signing PGs/SGs years after years…The fucking starting lineup is now Ant/Dame/Scoot/Sharpe/Grant….WTF IS GOING ON

  30. ChrisRhodes789

    LMAO..

They drafted Dame’s replacement & they are trying to sell him that it ain’t a rebuild..

They must think Dame is a dummy..

  31. sobasicallyimcrying

if dame stays after all that talk then he’s annoying and i hate him

  32. woodropete

They act like dame aint a vet..they r quite literally selling him the same thing they been selling him. Its pretty ignorant of the front office to insult dame to that level lol.

  33. leejoness

Lillard really acts like he has 4 Finals MVPs or something.

  34. Ok-Panic-4877

Someone ban all Dame posts until season starts, thank you

  35. randomnizer456

It’s so frustrating being a Portland fan. Holy fuck.

  36. RESPECTTHEUMPZ

Like spurs wern’t offering a haul. Blazers jus suck. Gotta get Dame out of there.

  37. lilpumpgroupie

Well first of all, there wasn’t ever no rebuild…
