I’ve seen this play out before, pretty dumb of them to give this to Stein so other teams may try to mess with the Lakers

fyi not sure of importance but I offered Reaves in NBA2k $25 mil per year and the Lakers didn’t match!

Granted, I was stuck with Reaves then, but perhaps it’s an accurate base number if teams want to mess with the Lakers

  2. cactus_jack_1

What team is signing Austin reeves to that contract?

  3. JimmyV034

I want see someone try and offer it for the memes.

    > pretty dumb of them to give this to Stein so other teams may try to mess with the Lakers

No one is going to hold their own cap space hostage to do this

    >pretty dumb of them to give this to Stein so other teams may try to mess with the Lakers

Why would anybody do this? Teams aint gonna lock up their cap space to fuck with the lakers.

If anyone offers reaves, its because they want reaves.

  6. chickenripp

so what team is offering him 4 years $100M just to screw the lakers?

    >pretty dumb of them to give this to Stein so other teams may try to mess with the Lakers

because no one gave him this information unless it’s Reaves’ agent himself; this FO post-Magic has been tight-lipped until the very last second

  8. jfrodriguez1983

That $36 and $38 million those last 2 years could be kind of rough. Pop is going to be the one to force them to do it

  9. maryjain_

I might be overrating Reaves here but i honestly think 4/100 is fine for him. That’s about what the third option and secondary ball handler gets and he’s a solid defender too

  10. Calm-Cry4253

That’s way too much for Reaves lol. Best be hoping he can be the best player on the Lakers once Bron dips lol.

  11. Some team will give him the max $98m offer as a favor to his agent. This happens all the time. The Kings did this for Zach LaVine a few years ago.

  12. woKaaaa

Obviously because his cap hit even at the max of 98/4 would only be around 12 million because of it being backloaded – after those 2 years Bron is probably gone and AD would be traded and he’ll be full on tank commander (and then the 0.01% chance he develops into a Steve Nash esque star ends up being fine too)

Don’t foresee this being a real tough problem unless Bron keeps being a cyborg and plays till he’s 45.

Austin Reaves is a 25 year old who averaged 13/3/3 last year. Good player but the way people talk about him you would think he was a 22 year old All Star or something. $100 million for him would be an insane overpay

  14. derekmcfinn

Call me crazy, but I would rather have Reaves on a 4/100 anyday of the week than FVV on a 3/90. Hell, I would rather pay Reaves more annually period.

  15. hence_1999

The amount of people who think teams are gonna hold some of their cap space hostage just to fuck over the lakers is concerning lol

  16. p0tatoman

lmao, this overvaluing of Reaves reminds me of when Kuzma used to be compared to Tatum

  17. The_Skyro

Spurs should for sure offer that. Rockets too

  18. redonkulus

4 years is nothing. Contracts are so short now a days. No one remembers the 7yr / $125m that Juwon Howard got back in the day. Those were true albatrosses.

    Edit: Autocorrect name issue

  19. LazyBoyD

Got to stop over valuing players based on a small sample size of playoff performances. Look at Duncan Robinson, Jordan Poole, etc. Reaves is not worth $25M. I’d maybe give him 16-17M. $25M/yr is a top 50 salary as it stands now.

  20. jntlsseedcreator

Jfc these contracts are bonkers. The veteran players in the league aren’t lying when they talk about how screwed this all is.

  21. stickied

I still remember when Shaq got 7/120 from the Lakers, because Orlando didn’t think he was worth it.

I wish the pay grades in my career progressed like the NBA’s have.

  22. kemar7856

He avg like 13 pts for the season he’s not Jalen Brunson ppl 😂 your all seriously overating the dude he’s a 12-15 mill player

  23. shortsermons

That is absolutely wild if he gets paid that

  24. matty_nice

How many days do the Lakers have to match? I’m seeing conflicting answers.

  25. Ok-Map4381

Teams always say this to try and dissuade teams from making offers, but they don’t always actually match.

  26. HotdogIsaSandwitch

Lmao. Spurs are gonna force them to match a 4 year 100 and then do it again with Rui.

  27. Asking4Afren

I hope the kid does get paid, and by the Lakers

  28. WhileFalseRepeat

To be worth that amount and this early in his NBA career feels to me like a lot of projection based upon a relatively small sample size and with some serious considerations.

He won’t always have a LeBron or AD to make his play easier. Those two can sometimes make others appear better than they actually are. I mean, It’s a lot easier to look good when surrounded by superstars – even for those players who are kinda average.

And the more tape and scouting there is on him, the more his play could be negatively affected – we saw some drop off at times in the postseason even if he played well overall.

Maybe he is worth it – not saying he can’t be – but it’s very possible a contract like what’s being mentioned ages very badly too.

Feels like a gamble to me.

Not sure I’d pull the trigger on that one.

  29. Doc_Mattic

The rockets should offer a max to call the laker bluff lol.

  30. heansayes

Wow. I gotta admit, when I first read this headline I thought that it was a joke… no hating, but I am SHOCKED to learn that that is his value. Wow. I would not want my team paying that for him.

  31. dongerlord456

Good, now can Bill Simmons shut the fuck up about the Spurs going after Reaves. The guy averaged 15 5 & 5 in the playoffs he was never leaving.
