I will be discussing the latest news about the Toronto Raptors. News came out late Monday evening that the Toronto Raptors are likely to bring back Jakob Poeltl and will have to pay a lot to retain Fred Vanvleet. I will be discussing my reaction to this and also touch upon the Raptors salary situation as well.

This team has a few young guards who were being held-back by NN's ego. All these guards thrived in the G-league like FVV and Pascal did, I am excited to see Dowtin Jr (if he is back), Harper Jr, Banton, and Flynn, do under Darko's leadership. Flynn should be a starter by now in his career, I am not blaming it all on NN, but maybe that happens this year with the new guidance. With GTJ and Gradey at SG, SB's and JP's passing abilities – the Raps just need a steady ball handler and distributor who can hit a few shots. Nothing more or less. My opinion, flipping PS for Murray (ATL) would be a great move, switch the balance of power to a needed position for both teams. Starters: Murray, GTJ, Poeltl, SB, OG (looks nice on paper). But don't be surprised to see at least one of these young guards step up into their promise. If they all do, now you have log jam.
I don't care about the dollars, but maybe I am wrong, but I don't see FVV's game getting better, and a long contact is a mistake in my opinion. It could be a new coach has Fred playing better… shooting better?… but FVV's defense is just not going to get better. Already seeing the back issues with him. So for me, it's not FVV "hate", it's just growth for the team he will limit. He just isn't the most important player in terms of the teams future, but next year, we would suffer if he leaves. Hard spot for the team. Jak is a signing we need.

We wont win another championship with Fred VV as our starting PG.
Not to say most players aren't motivated by money but I feel Fred would never give us a team friendly deal. He felt snubbed at the draft and getting the biggest bag would be his way to stick it in the face of everyone who passed on him.
If he signes for $28 million or less a year – I will admit I was wrong.

There are many young PGs riding pine around league: Suggs etc. This team needs to be built around OG, Pascal, Jakob, Scottie, Trent, Dick and two young, talented PGs that we need to find. Or what comes back in trade from Fred, OG or Pascal. Fred is not a 120 million player.
I think it's more than likely that fvv could sign with the raptors at 28m for 5 yrs… it's a win win for both and he gets his money ..also it wouldn't be that hard for the raptors to give fvv 30/4yrs

Jakob makes more of an impact than Fred. Fred can go but I hope Jacob resigns.
Fred is not worth anything more than low $20s.
love the poetl deal. i thought he stood out during games. i think 30 is too much for vanvleet. he comes across as a prima dona to me. he is a middle of the pack point guard and you are going to have trouble getting anything of substance with a 30+ cap hit.
