They say that when selecting at the top of the draft you draft for talent not for fit. I don’t think a single pundit who said that Brandon Miller was the right selection for the Charlotte Hornets said that Miller was in any way more talented. They critiqued Scoot’s size, they questioned his shooting, they did everything but say that Brandon Miller was better than him. And yet, this isn’t why I believed Scoot was the better selection. The Charlotte Hornets have never been a winner. They have never had a lead that a team could rally behind to attempt a Championship run. The game of basketball is a simple one, score and stop your opponent from scoring. Championships have always been built upon defense and the Hornets chose a player with great physical tools to play great defense and yet it has never been his calling card. Beyond defense, leadership is something inherent within a personality makeup that exudes from the way they carry themselves every day. Scoot Henderson is the very player this franchise has been needing and when he was standing before them, they blinked. And, that’s why they’re the Charlotte Hornets. Never the bride, always the bridesmaid.

I agree with you. Some teams really are not concerned about winning. They just want to entertain the fans with 10 seconds highlights. I pay very little attention to teams like this. They disregard their player’s character and are only concerned with athleticism and offense. Drafting a 2-way player doesn’t matter to them.
At least they can look forward to having a lottery pick every year with this type of management.

I completely agree with this. It is the main reason for my disappointment with the pick because Scoot would have changed things. Hopefully the new owners will recognize this and make changes going forward. Good Video!
