Should Boston Celtics keep Grant Williams or let him go?

Grant Williams is a restricted free agent and he is drawing plenty of interest. He’s obviously a very good basketball player, but he’s also going to be a relatively expensive one as well. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal breaks down the reasons to keep him, the reasons to let him walk, and ultimately, what the Celtics should do with him this summer.

  1. Considered myself a die hard Celtics fan since the Pierce era but your podcast is making me rethink that. I don’t think I’ve ever followed the off-season THIS closely. Enjoy your takes

  2. let go. 12-13M AAV was a fair offer from the C's, bordering on overpay. I'd rather keep brogdon and trade grant for picks and get a cheaper piece on the market like thomas bryant for vet min/tpmle. i personally like numbers. it would be tough to make resigning grant works given our cap situation. agreed John on people making stupid comments, they should study the cap, cba and contracts 1st. so many stupid trades and FA signings proposed out there.

way to keep it real john. keeping the cap in mind is something most people forget.

i do get your point john about just hitting the 2nd apron because we need a swing like grant and he fits well. Thing is i see better swing fits in the market like Jaden Mcdaniels. that guy is a swing, on an expiring contract, wolves cant pay him next season due to Ant max extension and is a better player than grant. can backup at the wings and kp. shoots the 3 well and defends at an elite level. the problem with grant is he doesnt want to sign for a tradeable deal. he wants to sign for a bad contract. trading for jaden (would probably just cost pp and a 1st rd pick) not only gets us a grant replacement but also allows us to avoid the 2nd apron this year.

  3. Keeping Grant Williams would be beneficial for the Cs as he could help the team and if need be, a valuable trade asset down the line to get a player of need and make this team better towards banner 18.

  4. I see Jordan Walsh as a Grant replacement , he just needs to work on his shot but so did Grant in year 1 I’m sure we all remember. ..

  5. I never never miss a show, John. Love it! I was watching highlights from the playoffs and, Grant was very consistent. I think the Celtics should keep him even if it means the financial burden you mentioned. He's a keeper in my book!
