Plus a protected pick? I feel like if there’s a bigger move out there, like a lavine, Fouriers expiring salary is a good fit for a lot of deals. Feels weird the Spurs would want a mentor but also insist on getting a pick as well

  2. solo118

Evan mentoring his fellow frenchie… cute idea, not hating it

  3. blkhwk27

idk about anyone else, but im content with letting fourniers contract ride out if we gotta attach an asset to get rid of it

  4. ChrisMode2

Rather not give up a first even if it’s protected to get off a 1 year deal

  5. jabronimax969

I’m sure Pop would be over the moon when he sees Fournier’s defense.

  6. baylixir

Doesn’t give us cap space and matches salary matching for a trade harder, don’t really see the point for it.

  7. ElTuco84

Wemby has already 3 HOF mentors, one of them is french, he doesn’t need Fournier.

  8. nightwing612

I wanted this too. I want Spurs to get Fournier and/or Batum to pair with Wemby

Haha I wrote this like a week ago:

    >I have a feeling San Antonio is going to try and be somewhat competitive next year and will look to use their cap space and possibly assets to sign some good players. If they strike out or want to use their cap in this manner, I wonder if they’d take on Fournier at minimal cost as a salary dump. They have the space for it so the price might be a few seconds like we did last year with Detroit. San Antonio gets to bring one of the few Frenchman in the league to San Antonio to help Victor acclimate.

Though I didn’t have it down as us giving up a protected pick to do it. In fact, I now think this doesn’t happen because we don’t have enough salaries to get a trade for a star player going without using Fournier’s salary. Rose’s option getting declined guaranteed that. With Hart’s cap hold, I don’t think we have enough money to sign anyone outright even if Fournier is salary dumped somewhere. If this does happen, I think it’s a signal that this team is not making big moves this offseason and will likely do a few smaller moves like extending Hart/IQ, dumping Obi somewhere, and signing a player to the midlevel like Donte DiVincenzo

Makes sense, but no way the Knicks give up a protected 1st round pick unless it’s like top 25 protected for them. Rather just eat Fournier’s contract for this season at this point.

  11. mutherfucker_jones

Is getting mentored by Evan Fournier the way to go? No disrespect to Fournier but his game is completely different, he plays no defense, and he’s never been part of a winning team. If it’s a cultural thing so Wemby has another Frenchman on the team, then sure go for it. But if it’s anything other than that, then I’m not sure what Fournier’s presence would do for him…

  12. optimisticknicksfan

so what would our cap look like?

we already let go of drose

and what would we even do lol who would we go after? seems like everyone’s kinda waiting around

[Tommy Beer](https://twitter.com/TommyBeer/status/1674125387889008641) and Jeremy from KFS have talked about this before, and while it’s one way to get Fournier off the books, it seems like a shortsighted move. [KFS went into detail here](https://youtu.be/bE2u-Dfcovw?t=1669), and I thought they made some really good points about how Fournier could be used as part of a larger package for an actual starter-level player. Plus, you have to then flip McDermott later this season so you don’t lose his salary.

Packaging Fournier with RJ, Obi, and/or IQ for a legit wing should be the priority IMO.

  14. slickrickiii

I mean it’s completely pointless unless there is an end to the means

  15. lilleff512

He’s right about the Fournier/McDermott swap but he’s wrong about the first round pick. Expiring contracts are very valuable in this current cap environment with teams trying to clear their books to prepare for the new CBA.

  16. vette322

Geez, having to attach more picks to move another 2021 Summer FA. Weren’t these all advertised as “easy to trade”?

Tony Parker is from France – he’s got Wemby covered.

  17. NBA Media before free agency begins: Hype up that the Knicks are gonna make a big move and get a big player.

NBA Media when the Knicks make modest improvements why maintaining their flexibility: WHY DIDN’T THE KNICKS MAKE A BIG MOVE

  18. Jimmit79

Let’s end Wemby era by sending Fournier there protected first is a bargain.

  19. slevy221

He has never been right in any “sources say” predictions. Zion was his most recent. He is a click bait clown. Doesn’t deserve any attention.

  20. vette322

Didn’t Simmons guarantee Zion would be out of NOLA by the draft last Thursday?

  21. Dylan7346

Why would we attach a pick? We literally get nothing in return it’s not like we need $18 mil off the books this offseason for a big free agency signing. If SA wants him they should just eat it happily who else are they spending their money on

  22. i-piss-excellence32

Who cares what bill simmons says?

Also it’s fairly obvious that SA is gonna look to sign fournier in order to mentor wemby. People have been saying that even before the draft. I’m surprised bill simmons wasn’t able to find some way to praise Boston through this.

  23. Marcusreddit_

There’s not really anyone in free agency we need max cap space for. Ideally we need Fournier’s contract to match a salary in a future trade

  24. schoolboychew

Idk what I’m missing but why would we ever want to do this. We have literally no reason to get off fournier’s deal, let alone add a pick to do it. The only reason to deal him is to upgrade

  25. TapSweaty8450

hes off the books this year. If anything we wait until the trade deadline if we have something we can move him and the price will be lower since its only half a year and teams already know if they are making the playoffs or not to an extent
