>That leads us to VanVleet, the seven-year Raptors veteran and former all-star who struggled through a rough start to finish up another excellent all-around season as the Raptors’ only experienced point guard.
The gaslighting. What does this even mean đ
MrkGrn
Signing a guy to 30 mil a year because there’s nothing immediately better has to be the single most stupid shit I’ve ever heard.
GoJaysBlueJays
My preference would be to resign FVV + Poeltl and run it back. I would like to see a trade involving OG and even Boucher who both have value. This trade would be designed to stay competitive and also inject youth/talent into the second unit for the long term. The team could look like the following:
Starters: – PG FVV – SG Trent Jr – SF Barnes – PF Siamkam – C Poetlt
Bench – PG need to acquire in OG or Boucher trade – SG Dick – SF Porter Jr – need to acquire in OG or Boucher trade as Porter Jr is often hurt and not the long term youth option – PF Achiuwa – C Koloko
The team could add depth at the SG, PF and C position depending on the prospect returns for OG + Boucher. We could also add picks once we round out the 2nd unit with a solid 5.

>Their belief in Poeltlâs on-court value was more or less proven out: Toronto went 15-10 in 25 games with the big Austrian starting
As a reminder, 9/15 of these wins came against teams that were actively trying to lose the game, and 3 of those losses were also against teams trying to lose or resting most of their starters, but we were just that bad and lost anyway. We were 6-7 in games where the opponent was trying to win, and I would argue 6-10 because if your opponent is throwing the game and you still lose, that should tell you something.
It is absolutely insane to me that the front office is just assuming we are some great team with Poeltl because of that run. If we had gone 20-5, I’d still be skeptical but maybe there would be a better argument. 15-10 where 50% of the games were not real NBA quality is nothing to be proud of.

So essentially siakam wants to have full control over everything including his next contract and team of course, cock blocked the raptors essentially.
Really hoping Fred leaves, got a bad feeling tho raptors will indeed overpay for him tho
-No plans on an extension with GTJ, it will have to be more modest than 4/100
-Says that Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Sacramento have called about Pascal potentially being available
-Guesses that OG wants more than the max offer the Raptors can give him an extension (4/114)
-4/80 for Poeltl would get it done, but the Spurs have inquired about a reunion since they will have Wemby at PF at least to start
-One source told Grange about Poeltl: âI donât think Poeltlâs [deal] is as done as people think.â
-One league source told Grange that the Rockets are going to offer Fred 2/80
-However one source said this: “Everyone outside the [Raptors] seem to say VanVleet is leaving,â âBut if youâre an agent, thatâs what you want everyone to say.â”
-However another source said that Lopez to Houston isn’t happening, and “the notion of a $40 million offer for VanVleet has yet to materialize, though the Rockets’ interest in the Raptors point guard is very much real.”
-Grange says that “For their part, the Raptors have remained confident they can reach an agreement with VanVleet and feel he wants to remain in Toronto as well, but they arenât in a position to match a $40 million offer. ”
-Grange theorizes on Siakam’s message to stay: “But another way to interpret the message about only wanting to sign an extension in Toronto is that Siakamâs camp is concerned the Raptors are giving serious thought to trading the two-time all-star or at least listening to proposals.”
-One league source said “âIf you read the tea leaves, it looks like thereâs an issue there,â said one league source.”
-Grange also says “Would the Raptors deal Siakam to create more room to sign Poeltl and VanVleet, and not have to worry about making a significant commitment to Anunoby the following summer?”
Grange ends his piece by saying that “Would acquiring teams see through Siakamâs messaging, confident that few â if any â players would reject an offer worth nearly $200 million?”

Could see a Shams report as soon as Friday evening then.

So they’re meeting with Fred on Friday, huh? As much posturing as Fred’s agent has done lately, and as obvious as it is that this FO is too attached to this core to rebuild for some reason, I can’t see this FO offering signifcantly more than 30 mil per year for 3 years (at worst they’ll throw together a 4 year deal with less money per year). Guess the future of the team will become more clear by the decisions made on that day…
Raptorsthrowaway1
I fully believe that Yak will be back with us next year. I think this is a combination of agents posturing to get clients the best deal and the media needing something to speculate on.
However….. if he signs somewhere else. Masai + Bobby need to go. Committing a FRP + 2 x SRPs in a win now move to help a play in team. Then not re-signing him?! As I said, I am extremely confident he comes back. But if he doesnt, the hammer needs to fall.
2Shizo2flow
Apparently Darius Garland may be on the trade block.
I wonder if there is a pathway for an OG deal there. Especially if you can’t guarantee him that role moving forward.
Makes losing a Fred more palatable.

For all those saying to let FVV go, who’s going to run point then??
Also 30mill/yr has to be looked at how much of the cap it is taking. Blake made a point on the raptors show yesterday that 30mill/yr today is 22mill/yr in 2019 because of the 37% increase to the cap since then.
I agree with Blake that we should really be looking at the percentage of the cap hit that the player is taking and not how much they are getting paid.
sadrapsfan
I thought u couldn’t go back to the team that traded u for a Calendar year or something.
Spurs could give him more then us and not worry BC wemby is cheap AF next 4 years and a guy like yak could benefit on the defensive end.
Beyond BS if that happens tho.

2 + 1 is fine. If they lock him up past 3 years they idiots. Team option

Wow we’re seriously just scapegoating Nurse for everything and running it back entirely lol

Imagine paying Fred and not poeltl? Wtf were they thinking giving the spurs a first round pick without a guarantee of a re-sign
TMHAlgorithm
As much as I donât like it I rather have Fred at 30mâs with the ability to hopefully trade him a year or two into the life of the contract then to watch him walk for nothing or limited returns in a S&T
CursedGaming
1. FVV getting 30+ mil a year is legalized robbery 2. Paying FVV that money to play a smaller role during both Siakams and OGs contract year is insane
itâs sorta annoying how Masai is just falling back onto what he said himself wasnât fun to watch last year

It seems pretty obvious that they fired Nurse to run it back. I donât know why yâall are still shocked by this

Is it too much to ask to have an actual PG who passes and sets guys up. Doesn’t just chuck the ball from half early in the shot clock and was visibly selfish all last year?
