Shams Charania: The New Orleans Pelicans are declining forward Herb Jones’ $1.8 million team option for the 2023-24 season, which clears way for Jones to be a restricted free agent and for the sides to work toward a long-term extension, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

cool, thought this would happen, the extension most likely will get down before tomorrow when FA starts

as shamit said on another post, it would start at 11mil which is nice for the team, and I don’t think herb is particularly money hungry so he’s probably happy with this kinda deal, means he can stay on the pels which he clearly loves

edit: now that he’s been declined don’t fuck this up griff

I was wrong I though we would pick him up and extend. Looking at what he can pay him it should be a great deal though

Hoping for a deal similar to smarts first extension

imo i like this move – lets lock up herb right now and keep it moving

If we make a move it will be before this extension gets done. Locking in herb leaves very little flexibility.

This is going to be a very good value deal for the pelicans
