good points by kyle, and another thing to consider when trying to relate this back to the simmons thing. with simmons, the rest of the roster had been assembled, he was on a long term deal, so it did not upend the entire balance and structure of the roster.

the decision on harden obviously has more wide ranging complexities. if we take back an equal salary, it has an impact on which role players are coming back. if we get back picks/assets to flip, that impacts other moves like tobias and possibly maxey. who we bring back also likely factors into maxey extension stuff.

i know morey isnt going to want to trade harden for 10 cents on the dollar (and he shouldnt) and just take the first offer he gets, but i think from a team building perspective, it makes sense to try and resolve this as quickly as possible. and for the sixers, this honestly must feel like a win, because 48 hours ago, i thought it was likely he was going to walk back to houston in free agency and they’d have gotten nothing at all for him. now they have a chance to bring back actual assets.

Came to this realization yesterday and was immediately thinking heā€™s gone by 6

Harden and Harris for George, RoCo, and Powell.
If George isn’t involved, 76ers shouldn’t make the trade.
