I have no problem with FVV staying at a fair deal. 3/90 if we can also keep Yak. Cool, I’m actually curious to see how he plays under Darko who will cut out the iso bullshit and replace it with a ton of catch and shoot threes, generated off ball movement.
I absolutely do not want to get in a bidding war with Houston, idc if we have prime Pat Riley as our coach.
Edit: with respect to the FO, they took a calculated risk and it didn’t pan out this time (assuming he’s gone). Historically, it does with our UFAs though. Criticize the swing and the miss, I just don’t think it qualifies as them washed or some horrendous fumble.
I also don’t think they want to lock him up on unreasonable terms, or we’d be making moves to free up cap space.

FVV leaving and signing Gabe for the MLE is ideal. We get the championship year FVV in Gabe which can fulfill many PG duties while freeing up usage for the younger players and also OG (who has been complaining). We should see a more ball movement oriented offence this year.

It is simultaneously true that fred is not the pg of the future for the raptors and it was really dumb for masai and the FO to end up in this situation. There’s no contradiction.

FVV the savior? Fuck out of here, his production will be filled easy. The only L is the lost cap space

Can we all agree that losing a good role player for nothing is bad from a value perspective? It’s not the end of the world, and we probably wouldn’t have got anything of value back for him at the deadline. But lets not somehow try to spin this as a win, it’s not.

It is almost as if different people have different opinions.
Huge if true.

>“At the end of the day, in the summer there are 29 losers and one winner. There are 29 teams looking to do more.” -Masai
FVV being worth very little came from reports that the offers for him were low at the trade deadline. If Fred walks and we get nothing for him after Masai said the offers would be higher in the summer then he would indeed look like an idiot.

Two things are true: Fred is a great player and will make any team he goes to better
Raptors have hit a ceiling with their current vets and need to rebuild

Those are not mutually exclusive options.
I don’t want to engage this more than we have, but we had one competent PG last year, and we’re not replacing him with ANYTHING. That’s the definition of asset mismanagement and the FO has lost the benefit of the doubt they earned in 2019. That’s it.

I still think it would be gross overpay for Fred but I realize that they have no options at point guard position (i don’t think Barnes is floor general. great playmaker: yes, but not pg). You can blame Masai and Bobby for putting themselves into this position.

why didn’t the raps trade for joe harris?

Both are correct

I’m not about to pay any money to Fred who shot 40% fg. Especially the crazy money he’s commanding. I’m okay with a more off-ball play maker which forces other guys like Scottie/OG to create their own offence.
