[NetsDaily] From Ian Begley of SNY: “Spencer Dinwiddie is eligible for an extension later this offseason. Per people familiar with the matter, there is support within the Nets to add years onto Dinwiddie’s deal via an extension.”

I’d be down if it’s less than $20mil/year and he moves into a sixth man role

Don’t really understand this. Why would we lock up high priced role players for a team that doesn’t have a star?

  3. skinneej

He’s great as a backup guard. Not as great if they are planning on him being the main PG.

  4. Downashland

I guess Claxton’s extension is secondary

This is totally fine, IF he is moving into that 6trh man role. But if we are locking him up as our starting PG it’s a bad move.

They should also focus on Claxton not Spence here.

When are fans going to realize that Dinwiddie isn’t the problem?

He is not a starting point guard. He is a combo guard that can play at point, depending on the situation.

The Nets were forced to rely on Dinwiddie because he is possibly the only player on the team who can create his own shot AND create for others.

Dinwiddie is not a star though, so you can’t expect him to suddenly become an all star point guard. And he did a good job for the most part (barring end of game situations).

I’d be happy to have Dinwiddie back, as long as the price is ok. In the meantime, we need to get a true PG.

Oh god no. Why would we want to extend him? Unless it is for a very team friendly deal.

He’s a great backup and third guard. If the price is right, I don’t mind

Fans are a bit too harsh on him when he’s truly miscast

  9. blackmetronome

Spencer should be a 6th man PG, not the starter.

  10. Doot2112

Why not. He’s a true net, lock him up and let’s have someone to support

Of course they are going to say this, teams always say this. Look at Dillon Brooks. You can’t talk shit about a player when they still have a year left, otherwise they would be upset and other teams would not give any high trade offers if any.

Dude talked all that smack and disappeared.

I see this a little differently. Why add anyone or keep anyone over 30? We aren’t in a “win now” mode. Go younger!!

  14. broooooklyn

This is a good thing, not a bad thing **if** the Nets can get a quality starting PG. If we’re extending him to be the full time starting PG I’m going to get a lot of gray hairs lol.

Oh god no, I can’t stand this guy

  16. JohnFish2734

Oh god, don’t tell me bad news like this on a Friday

  17. slimstarman

Now all we need is a good stating PG and strong SG and we have the third guy on LOCK. Are we building backwards? Maybe a little bit.

  18. SabresMakeMeDrink

I think we should keep him for depth. But he’s not the answer for the starting PG question

  19. CreativeGuy25

If someone said, hey, we will give you $32M for another two seasons and we envision you as our 6th man… would YOU say no?!?!?

  20. Expulsure

god please no, i can’t take anymore years of the Spencer dinwiddie starting experience

  21. addictivesign

He’s too old (30 now) Mikal is 27 and Dariq is 18! Stupid to give a multi-year contract to Dinwiddie when we know he has reached his ceiling and we would be better off using his salary and minutes on the court to a younger player. Dinwiddie would be far better off playing for a contender. That’s not us in the next two seasons.

  22. pm_me_arse_pix

Jesus Christ I hate this fucking franchise

  23. onlyequity

I don’t want to see Dinwiddie in BKN. I can’t stand his game and his incessant crying to the refs. He’s also not well liked around the NBA. It’s rare that a ref calls a player a “bitch ass” ninja.
