It makes no sense for the Spurs to go for Damian Lillard. He does not fit the timeline and Victor Wembanyama is the future of San Antonio basketball.

That’s just a polite way for Dame to say No thank you.

Every single time man. Every single time there’s a star in free agency or a trade trying to play hardball with their team. Our name always gets dangled out there like some kind of mythical Boogeyman that could sweep in if all the GMs of the league don’t play nice with star players. So silly.

Before anyone starts getting all excited in here, this is 100%. Just not happening. The only way you make this trade is if you’re Brian wright and you just got back from 12 months in the future. And you know Victor wenbanyama is about to average 30, 12 5 and 5 and be an MVP candidate as a rookie lmao

The timelines are just way too different

First we took Aldridge, now we take Lillard 😈 😈 😈

But in all seriousness, I would rather keep our core guys. Unless theres a world where they take doug + some fillers + a lot of picks, I don’t see it happening.

The San Antonio Leverages are back baby!

Doug McDermont, Zach Collins, and 5 Second Round picks sounds fair to me

A large number of players in the NBA have a world of respect for Pop and admire his accomplishments but I genuinely believe a much small portion of those guys want to actually play for him. Its all fun and games grab-assing for Team USA when you outclass the rest of the world in talent (thought the gap has narrowed significantly), its completely different for the 82 game plus playoffs grind and getting coached up by the salty old goat.

Anyhow, were Dame to say “send me to the Alamo, I wanna play out my career in SA..” I don’t think I would do it. And look, we’ve all been over this a million and one times so I am not going to rehash it all here. I don’t think its even a remote possibility anyhow, so Herro, Lowry, and picks and let him go to Miami.

  8. Do some people here realize we actually have to give Portland lots of good stuff for this to happen??

If Wemby is gonna be an All Star out the gate I think it could be worth it. Wendy’s contract immediately becomes the best in the league and you don’t wanna waste that window of paying a star only 55 million over 4 years. It’s an ample time to buy for the spurs with all their trade assets, young pieces, and cap space. Also Pop! how many years does he have left? Having the GOAT coach with limited years left in his career is a pretty good incentive to win now. I’m not a spurs fan but just my opinion

Please no. Portland going to want the house. Dame is 32 not 28. Also don’t believe Dame would ask out of Portland to have a better chance at a championship then be happy getting traded to the Spurs. Granted we have Wembanyama and some good young complementary players, but Portland has Scoot, Sharpe, Simmons and just resigned Grant. Considering we’d have to give up some players as well as the picks in the short term, for the next year or two, Portland feels like at least as good a place to win as we do. If Dame was 28 then his thinking could be to go play with a generational talent and put faith in the Spurs front office to be better than the Blazers front office in making good decisions, but at 32 he really is only thinking short term, so I think that limits it to Miami and maybe Philadelphia.

This feels like a Daryl Morey move your chips all in type of move. So my guess is Philadelphia. Also feel like with Maxey they have a much better headliner to trade Portland than Miami. Outside of Bam and Jimmy there just isn’t that much for the Heat to trade. Herro is way less valuable than Maxey and the Heat have even less picks than Philadelphia to offer I believe.

At this point Spurs have chosen a direction to build this slow and steady. They didn’t make a splash trade in the draft they have chosen not to overpay in free agency. Makes little sense to try to shortcut the process now.

Why would he sign here? He wants to win. We’re a few seasons away, while the Heat are right on the cusp. This reads to me like “I greatly respect that organization, but I’m not going there.”
