My only thing with signing a supermax player like Lillard, is you practically must gut your team's present and future to afford them and then if they go down due to injury, the team is completely f'ed. …and injuries are inevitable. (Jokic is an anomaly!) I don't care what the stats say, it makes more sense to me that you have a minimum of players making over $35k/yr. A bunch of decent grinding mid-level players ($20-32K/yr), I would think can absorb injuries much easier and still win a lot of games. We've seen "super teams" with 2 or 3 players making over $45K/per year absolutely fail because they were trash when one or two of their "star" players went out for several weeks/months. I'd rather see other teams take that chance and spend ridiculous amounts in assets and $$$ trying to land Lillard. I'd rather stick with what we've got and see what Darko's coaching staff can do with this current roster, which should be considered a bargain for what we are paying them for the talent that they provide us.

If we were able Shai Gilgeous Alexander would be a better option as he is Canadian and might be easier to acquire. Do you really think that we are a dame away from a deep playoff run? This feels more like a trade for a team who are on the cusp of a big run. We might be good this year. I have confidence in our core, but I don't think we are good enough to sell our future for it.
