Massive changes hit the Toronto Raptors at the start of NBA free agency as Fred VanVleet leaves the organization to sign a 3-year max deal with the Houston Rockets worth $130 million. In the wake of the decision, Masai Ujiri acted quickly and signed former Los Angeles Lakers point guard Dennis Schröder to a 2-year $26 million contract. The Raptors also managed to bring back Jakob Poeltl on a solid deal worth $80 million over 4 years but this day can not be looked at as anything other than a complete failure for the Toronto Raptors and their front office.
Fred VanVleet becomes the latest player that Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster fail to capitalize on for value after Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, Marc Gasol, and Serge Ibaka left for free while team legend Kyle Lowry left the team through an incredibly disappointing sign and trade which brought in Precious Achiuwa and Goran Dragic, who cost the team a first-round pick to unload and caused on overpay for Thaddeus Young.
The Toronto Raptors could be heading in the wrong direction, or in no direction at all, and everything is to blame on the complete and utter mis management of the front office.

Schroeder was one of the top starting pgs available and we got him for a good deal. There really wasn't another option; I'm happy with it
I hope you're wrong about all of this, I think if Malachi and Precious have a good season (better compared to last year), and if the whole team is well, then they can make the playoffs, honestly they would have made it last year had we had Jakob from the beginning.

Bruh you complain way too much, the clippers didn't even want to give up Mann and a first for Fred. On one hand you say that we couldn't match the offer and on the other hand you're complaining about fred leaving. For the record Gabe Vincent is not a better fit than Dennis Schroder.
Stop whining. Fred leaving is not a loss. It's addition by subtraction. Scottie will impress as a giant pg. We got shooters and a good first guard otb. We're gonna be really good due to coaching, growth and culture. We must think more holistically to appreciate what the fo is doing…

Considering hes basically making a quarter of what Van Vleet is I'm much happier with Schroeder and I'd argue he's a better fit than Fred. You're right about getting value out of our players though
Why, because they can? Fred is where he wants to be and lost interest in Toronto long before draft night. We got what we got, time to move on.
Schroeder is not a far inferior playmaker, and Fred's shooting has been atrocious the past 2 seasons. Also we need to stop acting like this is the same Fred that locked up Curry in the finals, his defense fell off a cliff the last couple years and he's a liability against taller or quicker guards.
It's Dame Lillard or bust. He's the only shot we have at winning a chip. Get it done Masai.

We should have signed him a year ago even before the trade deadline. Trade line was not the right time. Even now they should decide on og before he walks. Same for pascal decide on him now.
FVV did not add any to the team in 22/23; so he is a non factor to me. The team is still a good mix; but most importantly it needed a drastic change, and FVV was that factor that needs to be removed- he held the ball and made the plays; he did not take the team into the playoff; but he embellished his skills while the team looses.
Grady Dick and porter should help with the shooting. Fvv was a great player. He was clutch in the playoffs. The guy we should have got rid of pascal. I would trade him asap and get something for him. Young is a disaster

Masai is too emotionally attached to the roster, that’s why Fred walked for free, he’s gotta make those tough decisions to trade those players when they’re at their peak value, he shoulda traded Fred at the deadline, everyone saw Fred walking for nothing from a mile away, or another thing trading up in the draft to get a better pick and potentially drafting scoot Henderson, I honestly think its time that masai goes and we get a new GM

We didn’t lose FVV for nothing. We got Schroder and Jalen McDaniel in return. Had the raptors kept FVV, they wouldn’t have been able to sign Schroder and McDaniel.

Dennis saved us lots of money, and will be a lower usage player compared to Fred. This will give the other players on our team more looks.

crying over spilt milk doesnt change the reality, end of the day it was freds time to leave and he left so be thankful. he also protected masai from himself by pricing himself out of the budget. teams better without fred who is just a volume shooter and losing steps as he ages. in 2 years you will see this was a blessing fred left. restored some financial flexibility with the team.

I’m ok that the raptors have added two players in place of FVV. Has management made mistakes Koloko instead of walker was a mistake and trading next years first top 6 protected is a huge mistake. Raptors fall in love with there players too much.
The good news is Raptors now have the money to sign OG Barnes and Trent. They just need to start finding assets again Is Markquis Nowell the next FVV I really hope so
