With Damian Lillard finally (officially) asking for a trade from the Portland Trailblazers, the landscape in the NBA around the superstar point guard has once again shifted. While it seems like the Miami Heat are his preferred destination, there are still ways the Nets could work into this mix.
Would Brooklyn be part of a three-team trade involving Miami and Portland, and could one of the pieces coming be in the form of Tyler Herro? The Locked on Nets guys break down the situation from the Brooklyn perspective and what the potential addition of Herro could look like.

Why are we so adamant on not trading Bridges?
Looking at how Brooklyn could get involved in this deal they could offer a combination of Royce o Neale/Spencer dinwiddie or Spencer dinwiddie/ Dorian Finney Smith to match Tyler Herro salary.
But if Brooklyn wanted to keep their main defensive core the other option is Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas plus some draft compensation.
The second option feels like the most logical. Currently both Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas don't have defined roles on this team. Since Miami is already sending out draft picks to acquire Lillard Brooklyn might only need to give up two first round draft picks at most…
Having a new core of Tyler Herro Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton along with vets Spencer dinwiddie Royce o Neale and Dorian Finney Smith would be quite a solid unit going into next season 🔥….
Also trading Ben Simmons to Portland to get Herro will still allow Brooklyn to remain under the luxury tax threshold.
Going into the next off-season Nic Claxton is due for a significant pay raise. Trading Simmons away will make keeping Claxton from a financial standpoint much easier.
Plus locking up Tyler Herro Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton for multiple years will allow Brooklyn's new core to build real chemistry cohesion and stability….
As far as the backup center position goes Christian Wood and Mason Plumlee are still available. Brooklyn could offer either one part of the full MLE instead of the veterans minimum to sign them…..
Trading future picks just to move off of Simmons and get herro makes no sense. If it’s the Philly first I’d do it tho.
Dennis smith jr
Bobby Portis is someone Brooklyn should think about adding with one of their TPE…. Hes a bucket scorer and provides some grit and punch off the bench….
wait, hold on, you're saying Portland's goal is to trade Lillard and stay competitive? that make no sense. they're clearly a young team with talent, so why wouldn't they just double down on that and build draft capital?
Christian Wood would come cheap & fits schematically.
There would need to be a fourth team. There is nowhere for Herro to start
I wouldn't be surprised if the Nets move from the 3rd team to the 1st team.
THE ONLY way Claxton goes is if Dame goes to Brooklyn. In almost NO world will Claxton go without Dame coming. I feel sick even thinking about Claxton not being a Brooklyn Net. The focus needs to be keeping the starting 5 and using max 3 draft capital (2 firsts and 1 second).
I actually would like Tyler Hero, we would need shooting since we lost Seth Curry, & Joe Harris. We still need a point guard, another big, & another wing
I really hope we're not the 3rd team. We shouldn't be helping the Heat win a title and I dont want Herro.
I looked at your channels videos for the last few months, it seams that you guys haven’t got anything wright. I’m just saying we need a star not another roll player! Which is Tyler Hero. I rather keep all our players then trade for Hero.
Why are the nets helping Miami ?
Am a miami Fan Tyler is a baller and super clutch it late game situations
NETS fans don't want Tyler Herro
Other than signing a backup center, (Mason Plumlee or Moses Brown) the Nets should stand pat. (No third team in the Heat for Lillard pursuit)
Claxton, Simmons, Thomas, 4 1sts
For
Lillard, Nurkic
We have the best combo being that we not only can meet the need of an acceptable trade but also get them the proper amount of picks and take back salary. Add that to the fact that we’re as high as the second preferred team lillard wants to play for and it’s a no brainer
Plus Claxton will be looking to be extended next year and you can expect about 30 mil to be the number. Do we really want to spend 80 mil between the 3 and just be a borderline playoff team? This is the perfect trade for both teams and I believe it will get done
Y’all need to stop shitting on Ben Simmons man. He’s exactly what this team needs. Y’all are acting like he’s a bum. He had a down season playing with a new team that was wildly unstable and he was clearly not healthy. We saw several games where we saw Simmons dominate. Just wait this “negative asset” bull will be gone by the all-star break.
I'm rooting for this to go through and ben gets dealt in the deal cuz none of yall nets fans support the guy
I'm a Heat fan but a 3 1st round picks is exhorbitant, I think the fair trade for the Nets would be two first rounders and at least 2-3 second round picks. Then the Heat could add in 3 first round picks to go with Lowry/Duncan and a Jovic. In total the Blazers receive 5-6 1st round picks 5 second rounders, Lowry or Duncan with Jovic the Heat get Dame, the Nets get Herro and Blazers get 6 first rounders, Lowry (who they can waive to save money) and Nikola Jovic. It's a win-win for everybody imo.
@lockedonnets I noticed your tone about Dame ending up in Brooklyn is almost as if it’s slim to none and in your argument against it it’s centered around him preferring the heat. But when you speak of the other potential teams (spurs, clippers, sixers, etc) you don’t make the same claim and are willing to engage creative ways to get him there.
My question to you guys is with him being linked to Brooklyn for so long, and even going to the lengths of name dropping us why are you so dismissive of us actually landing him? You can’t say it’s because he prefers the heat when you know the heat doesn’t seemingly have an acceptable package at the moment and you were willing to think outside of the box when it came to the other teams.
It’s possible that you switch it up towards the end of the pod because I’m typing this while only being halfway through but again it’s just my observation thus far into the episode. Basically what I’m saying is don’t forget to give us “we want lillard” nets fanbase something to dream about that’s all 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m fine with Tyler as long as the price is right as Doug said. A bevy of 1st round picks is a no for me. What is the right price? I’d have to think about that. Cam Thomas? Ben Simmons?
and fyi yall complain about bens contract when yall should be blaming brooklyn cuz they took on the contract when they took him in
