Even if you think Cronin did the right move, it’s true that he changed his tune from what he said at the deadline. He stated that he would build around Dame with vets and would use the assets available to him. He did not do that or was even close to that (we used all our picks).

Cronin – Dame, we’re going to try and move #3 for a star.

Cronin negotiates and doesn’t find a fair deal.

Cronin – Dame we have to keep the pick.

How you phrase what happened changes the tune. Doesn’t mean he lied. It could mean he’s trying to do what’s best.

Well, running your mouth off about how you’re gonna demand a trade unless we trade the pick probably made it a lot harder to get good value.

I just want this over with. Trade him as quickly as possible. The longer it goes, the uglier it’s going to get.

Man everybody can say what they want. Dame deserved better by the Portland organization. There is no reason over the last at least 3 years Portland shouldn’t have made proper moves and took at shot at the Chip. Dame stayed solid through it all and still got the short end of the stick. The organization was looking passed Dame and into the future when they had an opportunity to win now.

Sound like Cronin has literally been gaslighting Dame…

When people realize they’ve been being gaslit for years, they tend to break and can become bitter. I have empathy for Dame having been a similar employment situation.

I bet Scoot and Shaedon are happy to see him go. He’s basically demanded that they both get traded. Ant too.

Scoot and Miller have too much potential to be passed on with the #3 pick. I can see if you don’t have 2 potential generational talents available at #3, but for me it would take a star player no older than 25 in order to move a high draft pick like that and obviously that wasn’t going to happen so keeping the pick was obviously what was best for Portland it just wasn’t what was best for an 11 year NBA vet like Dame.

The pick was a lose-lose situation for the organization and Dame.

You keep it. Dame’s gone. We kinda already knew that. But I understand why Dame’s feelings were hurt. Mine would be too.

You send it + other assets out for Pascal or Bridges and cronin basically commits organizational malpractice.

In light of everything, keeping the pick was the right decision for the fans imo. Trading it for a win now player that took us to, say, a first round exit would’ve pissed me the fuck off and soured me on Dame.

Anyone feels that these statements are driven by Dame, to try to push the blame to the FO? Classless from Dame.
Another reason to be adamant in trading Dame to anyone, except to the Heat.

Hope people realize this, actions speak louder then words. The blazers kept saying they were gonna build a winner around Dame but their actions were we are rebuilding. The blazers didn’t want to be the villain in the situation of trading Dame. The only way to avoid that was for Dame to demand a trade. Dame’s actions gave the team chances to make moves. After Friday’s lackluster day where everybody was making moves the blazers showed their true intentions. So Dame made his decision. Idk what their idea was to rebuild with him here. No star athlete wants to be on a rebuild late in their career. Did they think oh we can play Dame and Scoot and maybe in 2-3 years we will have a team that can compete?
