The Warriors and Clippers together are paying more in luxury taxes than all the other teams in the league combined

Even with the stacked Suns roster, their luxury tax bill is considerably lower than the Warriors

Luxury taxes:

Warriors: $168 million
Clippers: $109 million
Suns: $69 million

Holy fuck $168m in tax. Sure, it’s less than the Rockets spent on people that can’t shoot but that’s still a lot of money!

Clippers always having a huge luxury tax bill, just for Kawhi and PG to constantly get hurt.

Well tbf the Suns will be tops when Booker supermax kicks in next year lol.

but for this year, they can actually get out of being a 2nd apron team by getting rid of Payne. They did well with their minimums.

Next CBA should address it, missing the point if they’re being penalized for drafting and developing their players well.

Should be a scaled discount against the tax for players you draft that are in the 2nd contract or more.

That’s more than worth it for the 4 combined championships between those two teams.

    It’s finally our year, folks!

Can someone explain to me what luxury tax is and how it works? Also what does it mean that they’re paying so high of a luxury tax

I understand the league needed to luxury tax teams from signing everyone, but Warriors got fucked.

They drafted well and kept their guys, which is what the league wants instead of superstars joining teams. Drafted players shouldn’t have the same impact as luxury tax vs signed/traded players

Must be nice to have Ballmer’s bank account

yeah even kd got traded half way to the season is insane. lower tax bill for developing own players and actually create some loyality fan base.

  13. D_Simmons

Kinda dumb you can scout, sign, and grow quality players and get massively penalized for it.

  14. Emotional-Chef-7601

I definitely thought The Suns would be at the top. Balmer is getting scammed somehow.

When you lack a hard cap you will, over time, mitigate the effectiveness of small markets to compete. Eventually you might just have 6-8 team’s annually with any real shot at winning the title. Similar to Baseball. It’s a clusterfuck and it takes away from the game.

Holy shit the clippers must have gotten something incredible for spending all that money right? Right?

  17. trod1990

What do the clippers have to show for it???? Lol clips will always be clips.

  18. Livid_Word3456

Guess winning does come at a hefty ‘tax’ price!

  19. Icy_Temperature_9829

Money can’t buy you love, but it can buy championships!

  20. Embarrassed_Year_550

Guess they’re buying championships like they’re on a shopping spree! 💰🛒

Balmer literally does not give a fuck. He’s so rich he makes these other owners look poor in comparison. His MSFT shares easily outstrip any nba associated cost on a yoy basis. The man could buy the entire league if he really wanted to.
