I think this is some Lakers PR. They don’t waive Bamba and decline Beasley’s player option with the intention of using a portion of the NTMLE and then say look how smart we are saving the rest to entice a buyout player.
Given all the smoke around Bruce Brown, they must’ve gotten strong signals that he was coming for the MLE before the Indy over pay.
Then they sign Gabe for his market value, realize there’s no one left worth using the remainder, and then tell Dave to report this and let any vet considering a buy out know that the Lakers have a few extra million to throw their way.
