On an Italian basketball podcast, the coach of the Greek NT and Fenerbahce, Dimitris Itoudis stated:
‘I observe a difference in the reasoning from the outside, especially when I am coaching Antettokounmpo with Greece. He wants to also be coached by a European coach who does not know the dynamics of the NBA. However, he comes to practice and doesn’t want to be treated any differently to the others who play in Europe.
The thing is that with him come 6 people from Milwaukee who follow him 24 hours a day and they ask us to let him rest, only play him a limited number of minutes. It’s a matter of compromise. How can I stand to coach him only for X amount of minutes per game and not to upset his franchise?’

I love the fact you guys think this is only about money. European players grew up wanting to train as hard as possible to maybe one day play for the national team. And for Giannis this is even more important because he gets to play with 3 of his brothers in the same squad. Look at players that make / made more money than Giannis in other sports like Messi, Ronaldo Mbape and so on. When they get to play for the National Team they do, no questions asked. If Giannis wants to play for the team and he has said numerous times he does the Bucks canāt really do anything about it but pray he does not get hurt. Itudis is been courteous to them by allowing them to be present and watch over him. We need to stop this shit. Luka plays for Slovenia 40 minutes, so does Jokic for Serbia. Giannis is not anything more special then them. And we need to stop treating him as if he is made of glass. Because if that is the case maybe we should keep him away for the regular season and just play him on close-out games of the playoffs. Playing internationally forces him to develop his game. Forces him to play with his back to the basket more, work on his post moves. Work on his mid-range shot and so on. The international games are a lot slower pace and resemble playoffs a lot more than the regular season games.

A lot of people responding like these are comments to be annoyed about, and I don’t fully get it.
National team coaches want to be able to get the most out of their players. Giannis wants to play as much as possible for his national team. The Bucks want to ensure he is rested and isn’t put under too much physical strain playing for a team other than them. There’s a natural conflict there. Itoudis isn’t stepping out of line to point that conflict out, he’s not wrong for being annoyed that the Bucks want to interfere in how he coaches the national team. Both the Bucks, and Itoudis have perfectly defensible positions they just don’t match.
