PG, but also they got Kawhi out of it. Coming off that TOR run he was the most coveted player in the league.
4 of those picks have materialized. Were any in the top 20, let alone the lottery?

Is the finals MVP version of Kawhi part of the deal too? Because that’s why the Thunder got so much for George
TubbzMcGee
Clippers overpaid because Kawhi agreed to sign with them if the traded for PG13. Very different scenario.

Paul George was 29. Lillard is going to be 33 this season.
George was the 10th highest player in the league with 3 years remaining on his deal, covering his age 29-31 seasons.
Lillard is the 7th highest player in the league with four years on his deal, covering his age 33-36 seasons. When he is 35 and 36, he will be the 2nd highest and highest paid player in the league based on current deals.
Further, the amount of teams needing a ball dominant point guard who is a negative on defense will never be comparable to the number of teams that need a versatile forward who is/was elite both ways.
Their trade values are not comparable.

Apples and oranges. For one: Paul George didn’t say “hey i demand to be traded to ONLY one team” after signing a huge extension and then threaten to throw a shit fit.

Trading for PG was a prerequisite for signing Kawhi. Trade value doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s all about circumstances.
Right now the market isn’t great for Dame. The teams where he would fit well don’t have much assets. The fact that he’s demanding one and only one team hurts value. But it’s mostly just there’s not teams out there that have a bunch of assets and are a Dame away from contending.

The picks don’t even matter that much, give me someone who is younger with some plausible path to being an all star

That was essentially PG AND Kawhi. Kawhi wanted to be there IF they got George. We’re not getting that package, but we should try for something as close as possible.

I think the closest comparable trade would be Harden to the Nets. Harden wanted to go there, it was the third piece to a big 3, harden is a top player who didn’t play defense, etc. etc.
Am I going to delude myself into thinking we’re going to get 3 swaps and 4 picks (and Caris LeVert level player)? No. But 3 picks, 2 swaps, Jovic and Jaquez seems like a package I can at least digest.

Paul George in 2019 was way more valuable than Dame is right now. And as others have said, it secured Kawhi who was literally coming off a finals MVP and a top 2-3 asset in the league. Thunder had leverage, and Sam presfi is their gm who’s a finesse G. And Paul George is a wing, played pretty good defense, position wise that’s just way more sought after than an aging undersized guard.
If this team had done what the thunder did, and maximized dame’s value and traded him 4 years ago we might have gotten a similar, or even the identical trade. Now? Who knows

If Miami doesn’t trade for Dame, they are an 8th seed again, if not worse. They need Dame.

Cmon man. This is such a dumb post. Anyone that knows of this trade knows it was for Kawhi and PG. Don’t make Blazers fans look this a stupid.
