Lakers Offseason Breakdown: Does LeBron have enough help to win title? | Hoops Tonight

Jason Timpf breaks down the Los Angeles Lakers’ offseason moves and discusses how LeBron James and Anthony Davis will have a shot at dethroning Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets this coming year. The Lakers are mostly running it back in 2023-24 after re-signing Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura, while adding some extra depth in Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes, and Gabe Vincent. Will it be enough to get them to the 2024 NBA Finals?

  1. Idk man looking at this lakers roster, I can’t help but think they’re the hawks post ecf or Mavs post wcf type of team

  2. Lakers loss to Denver because of their back court play. If dlo had showed up lakers win title 18.

  3. Russ ain’t letting the Lakers end their regular season losing streak to the Clippers.

  4. Lakers can bring in Tristan Thompson any time of the year, even just before playoffs. They should try bring in someone else, like Biyombo, L.Lopez, or Whiteside to try out how they fit first.

  5. I don't want to hear a single excuse when LeBron loses. All these laker meat riders saying how great their off season is. They better win the chip.

  6. Can LeBron help himself? Dude staying in the game so he can be on the court the same time as his 2-Star seed?

  7. If LeBron plays more defense; less offense and less 3's then they'll be fine. If he has a stat line of 20ppg; 5rbs; 6ast in about 30-32 minutes, let's others get the points, let them have an actual offense and take over when it matters they'll clear 60 wins. If he tries to score has a high usage rate and shoots a ton of 3's they'll need to trade him for peanuts.

  8. How about let’s trade the entire 1st team all nba players to lakers to help lebron. Yikes . Lakers and lebron fans are gross

  9. I seem to be in the minority in my thinking the Lakers off season additions are not that impressive. I think keeping Rui, Russell and Reeves was good, but they were swept by Denver with all 3 in the lineup. The new guys, Reddish, Prince and Hayes are all projects or rolls of the dice. Could be great, but couldn't make significant contributions on the teams they were with last year. Lastly, they swap of Schoeder for Vincent which looks good on paper, but could cause problems. Vincent is limited on what he can do off the dribble and in isolation. At this stage in LBJ's career, I'm not sure how much he can create for others anymore. The good thing about Schoeder last year was he as one of the few on the roster that could score on his own, or create without a screen. This roster will put a ton of pressure on LBJ, AD, and Reeves to be "creators" for others.
We'll see, but I think the trip to the WCF last season was fool's gold. Matchups worked out perfectly for them. I think they are closer to a first round elimination team than they are to the Finals.

  10. The Suns have a better team than the Lakers and Nuggets 😂 lakes roster is just a bunch of players throw together

  11. I get you're a HUGE Lebron/Laker's fan but saying that the Lakers can beat everyone in the League except for Denver is really going to far.

The Lakers can't even beat the Clippers. The Lakers haven't beaten the Clippers since 2020 but they're second to Denver? Lol.

When the Lakers start beating the Clippers I'll start taking them seriously again.

  12. Should be a 50+ win team and be anywhere between 1-4 in the west. I don't think there is a gap between Denver and any of the actual top tier contenders besides the cliche "they're the defending champs so they must be…" and so on. You had a Lakers team where AD was literally alternating great offensive games for whatever reason, LeBron playing on a bad foot, plus the lack of team chemistry and they still only lost those games down the stretch. The Grizzlies had a ton of injuries and issues. The Suns had injuries plus lack of chemistry. The Warriors had their own issues. The Nuggets had little to no injuries and issues at all and had good chemistry. That advantage won't be there next year. And over in the east, Giannis was hurt, Embiid was hurt, Tatum was hurt, Mazulla was learning on the job. I honestly don't believe in overhyping the Nuggets to the point of saying "The Lakers can beat anybody right now except the Nuggets." The top 7 or 8 teams overall in the league IF healthy are all on the same tier.

  13. Ik it’s July but holy hell it is NOT THE TIME to be throwing away a day to go over “full”outlook at the league after FA just to be lazy and talk about the Lakers. You’re gonna mention them for 99% of the season… at least build up hype for other teams during this time when nothing is going on. Please 🙏🏾

  14. Lakers are trash. Sorry to bust yall bubble. But without the refs the lakers should have never made it to the playoffs let alone the conference finals. How do you know this was the case because as soon as the whistle stopped. The lakers get swept. The heat at least got 1 game on them. The lakers want to rely on reeves as a ball handler bro stop it lmao. This is hilarious. He is not him. Had a decent playoff run but even Jeremy Lin looked like an allstar at one point

  15. Great content as always. Much appreciated.

Can you please link your 1st segment of the Laker signings. I can not find it on the Volume channel

  16. Bro you need to talk about other teams and the moves they've done as well. The Lakers are NOT going to regain that magic from 2020 when EVERYONE had a 4-5 month break. AD is injury prone every year, and LeBron is in year 21, father time is coming for him bro. You need to let it go and expand your pallet because there are much more teams that deserve the spotlight as well

  17. Dumb question: does LeBron have enough help? If he's the goat, then he should've won this past season. The real question should be: when will the LeBron media realize he's too old? Every year he's been in L.A., LeBron has been injured. The only year was 2020 when the pandemic hit and the NBA shut down for a few weeks, that gave LeBron old body rest so when they restarted in the bubble he was fresh enough to lead the Lakers to the title. Next year will be year 21. Once a player starts missing games due to injury as they age, they continue to miss games due to injury. It's not a matter of if LeBron gets hurt, but when. The same thing is true for AD. LeBron had enough help, but too old and injured to make a serious impact. Age and injuries always go hand in hand. The reason the Nuggets beat the Lakers was the Nuggets were the better team. Plus Jokic and Murray simply outplayed AD and LeBron. Let's be honest the Lakers had a soft schedule down the stretch to end the season. Then the 1st 2 rounds they got favorable matchups. They played dysfunctional Memphis, then undersized Golden State. When they played a real team, the Nuggets, they got swept. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers may miss the playoffs next season. Right now I'd say they might be a 5 or 6 seed. Nuggets, Kings, new Mavs, Suns to me are better than the Lakers with a healthy LeBron and AD.

Dumb take saying if LeBron and AD fix their jump shots. They never been good jump shooters especially LeBron. His strength was overpowering people on his way to the basket. Now he's too old to do that consistently. LeBron right now is like MJ when he played for the Wizards. Trading LeBron and or AD would make the most sense.

  18. Lebron never has enough help… haven't you learned by now? The man had to team up with another MVP candidate (Wade) and a top 10 player (Bosh) for people to decide that he had enough help… seriously… Lebron fans are the saddest bunch I've ever seen

  19. This roster as currently constructed won’t have the need for AD/LeBron to empty the tank in the middle of March and early April just to make the playoffs. You can’t not understate how important that will be for the title run.

  20. hey jason! why no love for castleton? for me he is our 3rd center if we dont get wood

  21. The Lakers lost by an average of 6 points in the Nuggets sweep. That's with most of the Lakers depth disappearing and Jamal Murray looking like MVP Steph Curry. The Nuggets's entire team showed up, more or less, while the Lakers had LeBron, AD, and Reaves show up. LeBron was injured too. D-Lo shot 10% from three and like 30% from the field.

The Lakers just needed like one or two players to average a few more points to possibly flip the entire series. Every game came down to the wire. It's not that unreasonable to expect the Lakers to play better next time and they already weren't that far off. Like can D-Lo just shoot 25%-30% from three? Forget about the 40+% that he could conceivably shoot.

The Lakers were the second best team in that post-season already. Now they have a whole season to play together and get healthy. Got some new roleplayers with upside on cheap/good deals. That's all you can ask for when you're not giving out massive contracts. Nuggets didn't really get any better which helps. Murray might not play as well in the next postseason either.

  22. LeChoke loses nonstop. dude got swept by another awkward European who can't jump. how many is that now? Dirk, JJ barea, Joker LOL. Nonstop losing. Gabe Vincent ain't gonna change that.

  23. I'm with Jason Timpf. I think LeBron's Lakers are it for me as well. The NBA is no longer about teams. You have to be a huge fan of individual players, and that's not for me in what is STILL a team sport.

  24. Looking forward to next season. Let’s not forget Denver lost Jeff Green and Bruce Brown
