Celtics Trade Rumors: Boston Wants 1st Rd Pick In Grant Williams Trade? Malcolm Brogdon Trade Soon?



The Boston Celtics have been mostly quiet in NBA Free Agency, as Brad Stevens has not made too many moves after the Kristaps Porzingis trade – could that change soon? Celtics rumors today focus on the latest Grant Williams update from The Athletic, who reported that if the Celtics trade Williams, they want a 1st round pick back in a sign-and-trade. PLUS, Brian Robb of MassLive says a Malcolm Brogdon trade could still happen before the start of the regular season. Jared Weiss of The Athletic broke down the latest Grant Williams rumors:
– Multiple league sources told The Athletic that they expect the Celtics to consider matching a deal up to the $12.4 million MLE that teams such as Charlotte and Atlanta can offer. But those teams, as well as Dallas, New York and Washington, can work out a sign-and-trade with the Celtics to bring in Williams for a salary Boston wouldn’t match. Williams can’t sign an offer sheet until July 6, so teams have time to get a read on how deep into the teens they can push the Celtics before Boston relents.

Brian Robb (MassLive) on other potential Celtics roster moves:
– Technically, the Celtics would be able to retain Williams and keep Brogdon if they were willing to push well past the second apron ($182 million) with the team’s payroll. However, the guess here is the team tries to upgrade the roster in a bigger way via trade if they are looking to do that type of spending for the 2023-24 season.

    We need Grant as he's our only big that plays every game and the only one that's able to switch effortlessly. He gives us a fourth playable big which is needed to win playoff games when injuries hit. I'd also love to have Bol Bol added to the roster as he's capable of playing the 3-5 positions.

    I don’t really want him back. He’s falling in love with the three-point shot and I’m afraid he’s going to get worse. He’s like Jared Sullinger not big enough to be a center and thinks he’s Ray Allen. He is good at defending wings. So if they do keep him, I won’t be that upset. I just hope they don’t pay him a boatload because I’m nervous he thinks he’s a starter and he wants to get paid like one when he’s really like a seventh option.

    You have to trade Malcolm brogdon at this point, here is a deal that can get him out of here it will be Malcolm brogdon and Robert Williams and a draft pick, the Celtics will receive CJ McCollum, that will be a great pickup, now you don't have to trade for dame and you keep the J's together
