Steve, you've really got to get of this totally made up narrative that Tibs overplays his guys when anyone with Google will tell you that's not true, Randle only played just over 35 minutes a game and that's good for only 19th most in the NBA last year and only other Knixk in the top 50 is RJ Barrett at number 46 with 33 minutes a game..
And you can't say that we should have kept Obi this year (thereby screwing him in his pursuit of a new contract) and also say that we couldn't bring back all three of Tibs, Randle and Obi because that's EXACTLY what they did, they took your advice.
Let's see who a sane person would pick to get rid of. A two time in three year all NBA player on a dirt cheap contract, a recent coach of the year who brought his team to the first respectable era in 20 years,. or a 26 year old player on the last year of his rookie deal who can't create his own shot, play defense,, rebound, or post up?
Tibs has wanted to play small just not in the way that you want him to, Next year you're going to see a lot of Hart or RJ at the 4 and three smaller guards and a rim protecting center or maybe on occasion even those players but instead of the shot blocker Randle at the 5.,
The two players we really shouldn't be bringing back are Randle and RJ to start together but I'd imagine that the front office is hoping that RJ in some way fixes his efficiency problems that have him in the bottom 15 percent of the NBA in shooting and dead last player on pullups on both 2s and 3s in the whole NBA who've played more than 500 minutes last year.
The NBA isn't a moneyball league it's a star's league and Randle's shot creation and gravity is something Obi will never replace and Obi shot 32 percent from 3 last year not 40 so what he shot in a very small sample size while starting doesn't count.

I feel a choice had to be made and now was the time, obi deserved starter minutes to earn his money and right now randle is better, if RJ and IQ have breakout seasons this year Randleās role will shrink and this team will soar!
I have a feeling we are going to regret this move like we regretted moving Mark Jackson back in the day. We were glass half empty with him too and he punished us with every ounce of the half glass full of talent he had. This might make us worse than the Brunson trade made us look good last year. Indy is looking like a complete team now and I wouldnāt be surprised to see them somewhere in the playoff hunt. I could see Sims taking 5-10 minutes off the bench next to Hartenstein with them switching between the inside/outside roles on offense and defense but thatās good for 10 minutes tops on the best night. Unless we pick up a quality back up 4 we are toast if Julius goes down. His ability to stay healthy through 9/10 of the season is so deceiving because he falls off a cliff, physically and mentally, at the end consistently. Heās like a lower level Harden.

I think weāre leaning on gassing up Obiās potential compared to his actual output. Obi cannot create his own offense, or guard multiple positions let alone his own position. Iām all for empowering players but its impossible to think that a coach will tailor his offense to help a fringe rotational player. Obi had spurts of being productive on leak outs, lobs, and wide open 3s but it simply doesnāt measure up to Randleās shot creation/tough shot making. Randle shot the highest volume of 3s on a team that desperately needed it. Randle simply eclipses Obi in just ab every category but gets slandered bc Obi is likable and āgives more effortā. We talk ab how weāre losing size but Obi was a poor defender/rebounder who wasnāt impactful w his length. Weāre also acting as if Indy hadnāt just drafted a PF that can actually be positionally versatile on the defensive end. I liked Obi, he was exciting and he seems like genuinely a great guy who is a clear NBA talent but we gotta slow it up.

I looked at the roster today and if they stay as they are we donāt have enough forwards unless Thibs plays Hart, Isaiah or Sims out of position which he did a few times last season.

Watched the Knicks make many bad moves over the decades but this one hits different…i honestly feel this Kid is a way above talent and will be a star if given the opportunity ..which Thib's purposely never he gave him in order to protect Randles delicate mindset..god forbid if we hear Obi chants in MSG ……so Thibs made sure Obi would be shackled to the 3 pt line no more high light plays with limited touches. I am very salty about this move it will come back and bite the Knicks sooner than later.
Not happy with the way Obi was handled. Obi always brought energy to the court and an upbeat spirit and never showed negative emotions, even though Thibs did not play him. The knicks could have given Obi more time and played him with Julius. Could have rested Julius more, etc. Brunson and Julius dominated the possessions, so whereās the ball movement? That cannot continue if the knicks want to get better.
