This is a silly post he clearly isn’t talking about the jazz but his future endeavors.

How is that what you got from reading that?

This is all news related to bringing a new pro sports team to Utah. I think maybe NHL?

Either way there’s no way Ryan would move the Jazz from SLC. Not only would Larry roll over in his grave but also SLC easily has to be the largest market in Utah. What’s second largest? St. George? You can drive end to end through there in 20 mins so I can’t see a professional team wanting to move there.

To everyone downvoting me: I’m not saying it’s a done deal. Just something to keep an eye on. It’s no secret that development dollars have been shifted away from SLC and towards south valley over the past few decades. Real Salt Lake, Aquarium, prison development, Bees Baseball, Silicon slopes, etc. There is precedence for teams moving to far flung suburbs. It’s more common in the NFL than the NBA but the Pistons did it as well.

Unlike the Millers, Ryan Smith did not grow up in SLC and probably doesn’t have the same attachment to the area. He owns Qualtrics which is a Provo based company. His business connections are largely Silicon Slopes centric, which influences development primarily in the south valley.

Like I said in another comment, it would make business sense for him to consolidate his development interests in the same area, given he builds an NHL stadium in Bluffdale or whatever

If Utah were able to get a franchise for NHL and MLB I could see them try to do something like a sports complex down where the Prison was just at the point of the mountain perhaps, or further north a bit. Keep it close enough (15 minutes further south or north). But I couldn’t see moving the team any further away for that and not for any other reasons. There’s a lot that would need to happen between now and then for that to look plausible.
