You guys can Put your Windy “what’s going on” fingers down now

They could still re-route Holmes, but I guess they gave up on expanding this specific trade

Looks like we got another year of Powell holding down the paint

Why do people think we could use Holmes as a trade piece? Guy must have negative trade value.

It was a good deal. Got a pf and another draft pick for nothing so cool. The fact that the mavs did nothing else to fix the center position doesn’t demean this deal any.

Holmes nor Powell should not be the starting center on a NBA team but here we are I guess.

Nico showed more than once that he can be unconventional and creative, but the easiest way forward now is to just waive McGee, accept the cap loss and use the roster spot more creatively in an THJ trade (trading THJ alone might be easier than piling up McGee).

A Holmes/Lively/Powell rotation is not that bad, specially now that we have an actual PF rotation that will allow us to see Maxi not break down by game 36. I think Holmes will be just decent enough to hold the fort, his pick n’roll sync is good, he is a better rebounder than Powell and actually has a neat mid-range game. Only reason we thought about trading him was because him and Powell are similar and we re-signed Powell, but Holmes as a stopgap is your run of the mill slightly below average C that is a good fit with Luka.

I’m one of the biggest complainers about our lack of size, but we can live with Holmes at the 5 if we are bringing a Grant/Maxi/OMax rotation at the 4, specially if OMax also features as a SF. Just split the MLE between Seth and DJJ and wrap it up what will be a very solid A offseason. We went into the draft with one lotto pick and will come out of everything with 3 below-25 years old rotation players with oozing potential, one of which started in an NBA Finals 2 years ago, and a legit good rotation C in Holmes (at least for our system), with losing just Bertans, Bullock and a swap 7 years from now.

If I’m honest, I was a little nervous that we would trade OMax.

Weird that like 2 years ago Holmes was our (community speaking) no. 1 wish and no we want to get rid of him asap

If we don’t use the MLE right now can we use it during the season for someone who gets bought out? Does it work that way?

If we don’t manage to do anything about our starting center issue it’s still a pretty successful offseason for us. Given our assets and cap space I’m pretty happy with how Nico has gone about it. Obviously I’d love to have us upgrade at center, but first off there weren’t any FA centers straight up that are worth it and second any center that’s sorta available for trade are probably too expensive given our limited assets until we have two FRPs to trade once the Knicks get their pick next draft.

Who know’s maybe we can still dish out Tim, our FRP and some seconds for some magic. The FA is still young.

If this is the frontcourt we’re rolling with I’m gonna be pretty pessimistic about this season. I like lively but you can’t expect a 19 year old who was raw in college to be our starter. We know what Powell gives and Holmes wasn’t exactly a starter level player the last couple seasons either. I’d even attach Josh Green if it meant landing someone like Jarrett Allen or Myles Turner

It was obvious he wasnt going to get traded once the Ayton deal fell through and he was going to be the starter to start the season. Funny how people thought we were going to get Allen lol.

I think Holmes will surprise us. His best ability is in the pick roll and lob catches with a decent mid range. He also is a bit better rebounder and defender — not that he’s great — than Powell. His issue last year is that Sabonis is best operating in the areas that work for Holmes and Sabonis became more of the playmaker for the Kings, while having a PG in Fox who isn’t at his best in the pick n roll. Holmes was much better with Halliburton an actual capable pick n roll guard.

Why there are no signs of Omax on every Mavs social media page? Makes me nervous man cause I really like the dude.
