Why Americans Don’t Understand European Basketball
From Luka Doncic to Kristaps Porzingis and most recently even Victor Wembanyama, Americans seem to me skeptical over European Basketball. So let’s talk about it.
What Americans typically don't realise is that they are extremely nationalistic, just like nationalistic Germany. It's not terrible, but nowadays you need to just open your eyes to the world, even if you don't like it.
NBA is about Franchises, they need players who can 360° and things like that. I think thats why the media tries to alleviate european basketball players, but they are to good now
Must be a coincidence that NBA pundits have way less problems accepting international players like Parker, Antetokounpo, Embiid or Wembanyama in contrast with Gasol, Nowitzki, Jokic or Doncic. It's almost as if those two groups of players had something in common.
It amazes me how so many old heads don’t romanticize the euro league considering how much AAU and highlight culture hinders so many players’ development for pro team basketball
Is there a single European player under 6'6 that has been a perennial all-star since Tony Parker was drafted? You guys are not on the level of the US yet, not even Canada. Your best prospects are ultra tall genetic freaks (Giannis, Jokic, Lauri, Porzingis) and Luka is quite literally the only player worth a dime under 6'9. You guys teach centers how to be guards but you can't teach guards how to be guards
Personally I have said it for yrs …a lot of black commentators don’t want white euros coming over to the states either Nba or college b-ball ….for any different reasons …mainly economic …but also culturally …..and they have zero insight into the game in Europe or how good the euro.league is …

Affirmative action should also work in the nba, they should require certain amount of Asian players, euro players and Latin players, same as Harvard…
