The mayor is going to reveal plans for a new arena in like the next month.

I never listen to this dude, but I checked out that segment for about 5 minutes and it’s insane how much he likes to theorize about nonsense. “What if OKC is good? And what if they don’t want to pay for an arena? And what if their owners become unhappy? And what if Seattle offers them money for the team? What would they do?!” Is there nothing more relevant to talk about with OKC than creating random doomsday scenarios?

Haha was listening this morning. As soon as he said “I hate to start shit” I knew where it was going. I think he meant it as a compliment as in “OKC has the best young nucleus in the league, it’s the perfect time to buy them”

Heard it.
It’s Bill Simmons so…of course.
But it doesn’t mean he’s entirely wrong.
In this political climate, it wouldn’t shock me to see Oklahoma voters make the same mistake Seattle voters made and vote NO on funding a new arena. It would be dumb and short-sighted, but it wouldn’t shock me.
(And I am of the opinion, in general, that billionaires should pay for their own arenas. But in OKC? This team has helped transform the city and put us on the map internationally. Feels like a no-brainer.)
Hopefully, with the team on the rise, local support is reignited and a new, state of the art arena is built and the Thunder stay in OKC for 100 years.
But if voters don’t approve a new arena, and someone, like a Ballmer type, throws 5+ billion at the ownership group in the next 5 years? Yikes.

I love how everyone in the comments are getting upset because he said “hey the team is valuable and someone could buy it”
