Does Wilt Chamberlain have a 50 inch Vert? #basketball #shorts

  1. I went over a bunch of footage of this awhile back. I timed out the frames he spent in the air and correlated it to jump height, which is a simple high-school level physics formula. In games he made about a 36-38 inch vert on block attempts. For comparison, Shaq made about 24' in his highest blocks.

Max touch in non-basketball situations and typical leaping ability in a game are very different. For instance Mason Plumlee, who isn't known as an athletic freak, had a 40 inch vert in the draft combine, which was by far the highest of any 7-footer ever tested in the modern era.

I don't believe 50 for Wilt but I can't take anything less than 42 seriously. Easily the most athletic C in history.

  2. Wilt Chamberlain also claimed to have killed a mountain lion… with his bare hands

  3. You donā€™t need to fully show off your vertical in a game because not many balls in the paint go above the backboard

  4. Personally I just like to believe every ludicrous thing they say about Wilt, in his prime, is true.

Like some mythical creature who we can never quite get a clear picture of.

  5. To be fair, we cant 100% be accurate as we dont have all his highlights and stuff. He probably said he did when he was in college or something doing track
