  1. One thing that concerns me is during the game he kept falling and fumbling the ball

  2. It was obvious he had no idea where his spots were most of the time

  3. Yes the Spurs did themselves and Wemby a huge disservice by not having a better game plan for involving him in the offense. They ran fluid offense for themselves but never involved him, then just gave Wemby a bunch on 1v1 from outside. So dumb. Set him up for failure. Got to be better at utilizing him.

  4. Guys… Just because he got posterized crossed over shot poorly and looks nothing like his Mets92 self doesnt mean hes a bust….👀

  5. He’s far from a bust. He’s gotta ajust too the NBA game. He’ll be fine. My takeaway from yesterday game is Champagnie… dudes a beast..👍🏾🤔🤯😁

  6. All Spurs fans knew the bashing from the sour-grapes were coming. We knew someone will eventually poster on him,. We knew Wemby will be a walking target. Wemby played his first NBA game and was a force defensively, helped team get the W. Shooting and some plays physicality may have gotten to him. In his final few plays when he shot a terrible three pointer, then got a block/foul on the other end, then got a 4pt play next, says much about this kid's character – we never saw his head down defeated, he continued playing – Wemby's a fighter. Miller got roasted in his first two games and some declared him a bust too. Wemby will figure things out, he seems to have the right disposition and humility. He will be fine.

  7. If Victor's confidence is low after a sub-par game I might worry more, especially if he wasn't only 19. I think he will grow and adapt and shut up his detractors.

  8. Victor said it himself – he didn’t know what we was doing out there. He doesn’t know the system, doesn’t know his teammates very well, didn’t really have much guidance on what role to play offensively (high post? Low post?). He’s been going from interview to interview since he was drafted, and now they fly him to Vegas and throw him out on the court. Yeah, I didn’t expect much. He’s fine. I’m not worried at all.

  9. We gave him huge expectations, he finished a trying season 1 month ago, while his opponents have been on vacation for at least 2 months, he has been running for 1 month everywhere (nike, nba, media…) , he changed environment and country. to this is added a ridiculous extra-sports story that is not his doing 24 hours before his first match…
He may say he doesn't feel any pressure, but he's still a human and a 19-year-old kid.
He is in good hands, has great potential, and starts with an average performance that brings him back down to earth and will motivate him more than ever… Haters, never turned their backs on a wounded beast., and don't forget that for now he is undefeated, 1 game 1 victory… 😘

  10. People do forget that LeBron or Steph did not have great summer league either. The man just got there. He is already a great pick with his present in the paints alone. Offense will surely come down the road. People are just too quick to judge on 19 year old rookie.

  11. I like to believe in that meal with the Spurs legends Timmy said to Wemby "Hi be bad on your first summer league game, trust me its a recipe for success"

  12. He looked like he was 19 out there. Which is perfectly fine. Like he's a teenager, and he landed in a different country to do a million interviews and be the focus for months, and sometimes shots just don't fall or guys miss your passes. Its not a big deal. He looked young and promising, had all the skills but needs to learn when to move fast, when to move slow, when to make a simple pass and when to take a hard shot, he has to learn his spots and focus on pick and roll, it will take time.

I had the exact same observation last year with literally all our 19 year old rookies. They all were getting adjusted to the NBA and sometimes were just rushing things they didn't need to. You can see how a year laker Wesley/Malakai (and I assume Sochan cause they don't even let him do summer league) are much more relaxed and know what they are doing. Its as simple as being new and needing time. For now he can focus on blocks and be super productive that way

  13. Crazy how much people are having a blast and calling him a bust over one summer league game. Kid has so much pressure and hate on him just because the media over hyped him 🤦. I really hope he proves these haters wrong

  14. He is going to have trouble backing down anyone as he will be hit with double and triple teams so good movement and cutting will be important by other players so he can get the ball out of his hands before it comes.

  15. First off some of those players on the spurs team last night have played in the nba last season they know the system and are nba conditioned to say the least. Wemby hasn’t played for about a month. He’s not conditioned yet and doesn’t know his spots yet like all the other spurs. Didn’t get in a rhythm because 3 other spurs were either flying down the court getting their’s or just putting up 3’s every time they got the ball which is a good thing. Whoever said Wemby was going to be scoring 30 pts and carrying this team night in and night out doesn’t understand why the Spurs picked him. All these you tube haters posting up these ridiculous claims just want to feel better their team didn’t get him. And for those spurs fans claiming he’s a bust those are the one game a season viewers. You have no clue man. You have four other players that can score 30 points night in night out. Once Wemby gets in shape and acclimates to the NBA pace and has a few more practice sessions and games these keyboard warriors are going to eat their words and take down their posts. And that includes Krispy

  16. Is anyone really calling him a bust? He didn't look good and doesn't look like he's a physical player if I'm honest. 7'5 guy should never go 2-13 from the floor.

  17. These haters are just going to make it way worse on themselves when the kid gets mad and takes these lame brain takes. Uses it as motivation to fix the holes they're nit-picking and becomes the phenom they're salty isn't part of their organization.

They didn't even speak on Champagnie out there putting up numbers and posterizing a kid😂

  18. Way too soon to call him a bust. If anybody actually pay attention to the game I saw a lot of the defense trying to crowd the lane so he wouldn't drive to the basket the team was basically double-teaming to Triple teaming him. So by that this kid the gravity was pulling towards him it was giving other players opportunities. As for me as a Spurs fan that shows that Victor is going to be commanding the double to Triple Team every game which will leave so many of our players open Lane's to the basket

  19. Victor will be fine he needed to shake the jitters off. Victor player very nervous. Let him get settled and comfortable.

  20. My thing is this: Had he even hit five of those eleven misses, we're talking about 19-21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 2 assists – which people would be praising him for today.

So let it be clear, that the margin for error between having a great summer league debut and being called a bust is 5 shots. The separation between instilling confidence in the hype you've built over your entire caree, and being called a bust, is five shots.

This game wasn't his welcome to the NBA moment – the fans' reaction was. People way too excited to see a young black man fail.
