[Bill Simmons] On the Blazers owning it to Dame. ” Well let me ask the Miami fans. Did you owe it to Dwyane Wade when you (Mickey) low balled him and he went to the Bulls?” Yes, Bill, we agreed then and now that we owed it to Dwyane to give him the extra 5 million. We have been consistent.

Riley regretted it. But this is still a completely different situation. Wade got to walk for more money and to his destination of choosing, and was no longer near his prime. We didn’t ship him off to Minnesota or whatever for the best package available

  2. RansomGoddard

Lol of course we owed it to him. Even Pat would tell you this now. It’s one of his biggest regrets.

I don’t think a single fan wanted D wade to leave. Owners are cheap fucks, dame wouldn’t want to leave if the team literally did anything. The best player he had went to the spurs cause those cheap fucks didn’t want to pay him. So fuck off bill Simmons

  4. betterdayz02

The whole fan base turned on the FO wtf is Bill talking about

  5. Bill is clearly misremembering because what really happened is we sent Wade on an undercover mission to recruit Jimmy and made the bulls pay for it.

World would be a better place without Bill Simmons tbh

I also find it funny how people say Miami never faced any consequences from its more mercenary decisions and how Bron left us for nothing. This organization was in a pretty bad state for a couple years (even with the apparent unfair free agency draw) and almost any other team would not have been able to recover

Billy boy wants Dame to Boston that’s all. He’s butthurt that Dame hates Boston. I think the whole fan base turned on Pat for lowballing D Wade. The Heat weren’t going to compete for a title at that time so giving Wade an extra 10 mil was completely doable.

Kobe is the best example. The Lakers gave him a huge contract when he was old and injury prone. All for what he did in the 2000s. The Lakers we’re going to suck regardless and they were better off respecting their legends than looking like a shit franchise that doesn’t care about their own legends.

  9. We let Wade do what he thought was best for him at the time and didn’t hold it against him. Then when the time came we came back to rescue him from Cleveland.

I like Bills podcast and enjoy how much he knows the game and really loves it – but he does turn into a Boston Sports Radio Jabroni when he talks about Miami. I respect it, he hates us, it’s fun – but his Miami takes are nonsensically bad sometimes.

If any Heat people had a national platform, they’d refute this immediately. But they don’t and Bill gets to go through all the stages of Boston grief with the country lol

I think loyalty talk is overrated, the nba is a business and teams will trade a player who has been loyal their entire career whenever it benefits them (look at Marcus Smart). That’s what made the UD situation incredible rare.

The Blazers don’t owe it to Dame to trade him to Miami but likewise Dame can say he only wants to be traded to Miami. In the end they will have to trade him here because no one else will be willing to offer more.

And celtics fans think we’re on their dicks…

  14. Timberdoodler

Totally different situation, but yes absolutely I hated that the front office didn’t give Wade the Kobe treatment.

I will say this. Wade made a dumb decision. He would have gotten a lot of that back via the lack of income tax here. Further, Wade ended up getting bought out after his first year anyways, so he likely ended up with less than what he would have gotten with us. Should Riley have ponied up? Yeah. But Wade also made a bad decision.

  16. YoungNissan

I would have paid Wade even if we sucked for a couple of years. He got us 3 rings he deserved to be the most paid for once

  17. Bigben1887

I mean the fan base threw a fucking shit fit about that, and atoeast we didn’t keep him trapped somewhere he didn’t want to be.

  18. bcuad001

💯% we did. Definitely effed that up. It should have never happened‼️

  19. Well, Wade had already been to five Finals and won three at that point, so already we’re talking something completely different than what Dame is complaining about. The issue with Dame isn’t money, it’s Portland’s commitment to building a championship contender, which the Heat have shown they do.

Member Isaiah Thomas? I member, Billy.

  21. xela_sj

Shut up Bill. Dame ain’t going to Boston

  22. EmoPsych

I was listening to this podcast and Bill went ham on the heat. He was saying that it was a slap to the face of the blazers organization for what the heat are putting on the table. Specially pointing out that the blazers need a big man (due to already having scoot, sharpe, grant, etc) and the heat are only offering guards and wings like Herro, Robinson, etc. which the blazers don’t need.

The main thing he is ignoring is that dame only wants to come to the heat. I personally think that in order to make this happen another team is going to have to come in because it is indeed difficult for all parties to be content

  23. IamRaith

Yeah the fans absolutely wanted to keep Wade. Stupid point.

  24. Quacklesnap

I really don’t think Wade left because of the money. Even if he deserved more.

He left for the same reason Dame is leaving the Blazers right now. The Heat were about to be a really, really bad team and Wade wanted to compete some more before he was too old.

  25. Linka1245

I remember being so depressed that I turned on 790 the ticket to see if they would talk about it and they set up an emergency broadcast because of the Wade situation for like 2-3+ hours and all of us fans could do was blame Pat for doing this and Micky for not trying hard enough. So yes, bill we did and the entire fanbase agreed.

  26. Damn, I didn’t know that the entire fan base of Miami works in the front office! I didn’t know we were at fault for low balling Wade and causing him to leave! We need to do better in the front office, Heat Nation!

  27. JichaelMordon

And the reputation of the organization was tarnished only to be repaired after Wade came back and reconciled with Pat and then convinced Jimmy to come here.
