Think about the length the C's can put on the court for some halfcourt D late in games.
Banton's young and will be a good bench guy for the 1-3 spots. Bring back Blake, Grant can get the money he wants somewhere else. Brissett is good backup for him, anyway, if/when we do let him go. Brogdon and JB are the bigger questions and will take a minute to get locked. Only reason C's are making ripples in the Lillard trade is to drive the price up on the other teams. He's nearing his NBA life expectancy so he's a short-window guy, he doesn't want to play for or live in Boston, and we can't afford him — unless we swap JB for him.
Eye test he’s nice
A bit sad not to see JD Davison being given a chance as a fourth option (if the roster stays as is) but maybe he isn't polished enough yet. Who knows. Welcome to Boston, Dalano!
They do not bring Grant Williams back
We tend to harbor talent and never plan to use them when needed.
The last two Celtics free agent signings indicate to me that Grant Williams is not coming back.

Bobby its worth doing an episode with Raptors journalist to get a read on Banton. I think he is an all-round more effective player than Pritchard. From what I can see:
1) Raptors fan reaction is interesting. They are mad he's gone, blaming Nick Nurse for not giving him enough minutes.
2) Great defender and passer. If he fixes his problems with turnovers and shooting, then he's the only good 6'7 PG in the league aside from Lamelo and Luka.
3) Raptors declined his team option to save money and were reportedly offering to bring Banton back on a minimum contract, plus Raptors have cap space after losing FVV. Why would Banton come to Boston unless he gets real minutes.

Lots of potential but turns over the ball a lot
Raps fan here: Banton is a dynamic player who needs to develop in two areas. Shooting is obvious. He works on it and he's not scared to take a shot when he's open. He is 71% FT so that is often an indicator of what kind of shooter he'll become– average? The second area is to slow down the game and be a true PG. That was the main reason he never saw the floor under Nurse. Banton's greatest strength is his maniac break neck speed he charges up the floor. When he's moving like that he can take it to the rim (excellent finisher) or dish it out into traffic. He can look like a highlight reel. He had a single NBA game where he dropped 28 and he regularly scores 30+ in the G league. This also makes him a one dimensional player that defences soon figure out. Two things can save you– good defence which he has, and shooting which he does not. Definitely needs to develop some half court quarterback skills if he wants to see time in the back court– not a 1 or a 2. So yes he is definitely a project.
He's a long and mobile pointguard that will speed up the offense, no doubt, but he has no jumper to speak of. Not even a midrange shot. He will always attack the basket if there are no other options; i.e., if there's nobody else he could pass the ball to in the moment.
