A trade of all young assets for one injury prone or one year contract All-Star would just put off a trade request for a year at most and left cupboard empty. Would have been worse possible result. Dame didn't have to extend for two years so if it takes a while to trade him hard to feel sorry for him
My only worry with Cronin is going to be that he turns into another Olshey and overvalue guys he drafted and can’t “trade them away” to make the Blazers better.
We have YET to see Joe Cronin trade a player for another player that improves the team. That’s a little scary to me.
Cronin did Dame dirty. He knew he wanted to rebuild, but instead of being honest with Dame he lied. He should have been honest and let Dame decide if he wanted to resign an extension for a rebuild or let him walk in free agency. But no, Cronin used Dame and lied to him to sign an extension so that he could get assets back in return rather then letting him go compete for his last few years. If he would have been honest with Dame, I’d be pissed at Dame. But he totally lied and his actions like you described show he had no intention of competing and wanted to rebuild.
I hoped Dame could come back and retire a Blazer and get his jersey retired. If this gets too ugly and they don’t do right by Dame, AGAIN, I fear he’ll be upset & hold a grudge like all players do and the happy ending won’t happen. #FreeDame
The problem with what’s going on is Dame devalued the whole Trade by saying he wants to go to Miami. Miami knows he wants to be there, so they don’t feel the need to give us a large return. I hope Cronin rips the heat apart for a player like Lillard. He should be asking for Bam imo.
I kind of want to see dame start the season and have our draft picks just run the bench. Itd be nice to see what they could do with depth
