MIXED Feelings on Isaiah Stewart’s Extension | Detroit Pistons

Jeff Iafrate, Sam Reynolds and Lukas Klotz discuss the Detroit Pistons’ latest move in extending forward Isaiah Stewart. His contract is four years $64 million and at the rate NBA contracts are trending, it could prove to be a cheap deal for the Pistons. While Jeff is more than happy with the contract, Sam has a much larger issue with resigning him. Like, Subscribe and leave your comment below!

  1. I don't know why there was a rush to get this done. Let the new coach come in, lets see what everyone looks like with a healthy Cade, and make the decision later.

  2. Why try to make a point by using the Celtics called about Beef Stew? He ain’t no starter there but he’s a starter in Detroit 🤷🏾‍♂️. The money isn’t going to hamstring us salary cap wise. But can Stew be that solid starting 4?

  3. I’m with Sam all the way. I could care less what they paid Stewart. Frankly, I just don’t want him on this team. He averaged 11 points and 8 rebounds on 44/33/74 splits in his 3rd season on a 17 win team. He has zero ball handling ability and lacks any sort of dominance in the post. He’s too undersized to guard legit opposing big men and not remotely athletic enough to guard opposing wings. He’s at best a fringe rotational player on a contending team. Extending him for any dollar amount shows a further commitment to mediocrity by Weaver.

  4. It is really only a 3 year deal at 48 million as they have a 4th year team option. He has potential to be a starting 4 as all he needs is a couple more % on 3s to be one. At worst he is a solid bench player who can play the 4 and 5 as a reserve and really be a stretch at the 5. There is a reason the Celtics were interested in him. He is a guy built for being in a short rotation for a winning team. The 4th year is a huge bonus because if he does become a starter that will be a steal. Bojan right now has a super valuable contract for the same kind of reasons. 2nd year will either be a bargain deal at 20 million of if he is injured it is only 2 million to move on. No risk and nice reward potential. Sam Flanel is nuts…Stewart is the only viable guy on the team now to be a starting 4 and this was not a bad financial decision.

  5. I gotta disagree with you. Im neutral on Stew, but last year was not "Supposed to break out" last year. That is revisionist history. Anyone expecting that was crazy. Last year was the start of giving him the green light to shoot it… plenty of reasons to hate on this contract but lets not be making stuff up.

  6. Miles Bridges better be in a Pistons uniform next season or Weaver has to go….Stew & Hayes has been here for 3 years…. I've seen enough….and Stewart got a extension averaging 9 points….if they give sorry ass Hayes a contract we have to run Weaver out of town.

  7. What good has Troy Weaver done for the pistons Ivey n cade was easy picks Duren I say was his only good move but he brings in Wiseman to mess that up

  8. They're kinda paying for potential even role players rn. Beef Stew haven't shown enough to be above the MLE, and so did Bagley who at least had and prolly still has more potential than him even though he's 99% unlikely to be in the NBA in 5 years. At least Stew will have a longer career in a very limited role

Both contracts are not terrible, but if you gonna pay a premium every single "project" you have in your roster how do you ever build a competent team?

I still like Beef Stew as a backup Center but I'll be more okay with this deal when Bagley AND Wiseman are gone

  9. Isiah is a Jack of all trades, master of none. I think that’s why he’s polarizing. He doesn’t do anything great but he’s a hustler.

  10. Stew was wanted by Boston. Reason is he's one of the top pick and roll defending bigs in the NBA which is incredibly valuable in the playoffs. People also don't understand 33% is good from 3 for a big whose just starting to shoot them. He's trending in the right direction. If he's shooting 36/37% from 3, people won't leave him open and you'll get space. 3 and D bigs are very valuable role players.
