[The Sports Rabbi] Although Deni Avdija is listed to play for Israel in the upcoming FIBA window, sources say that the Wizards would prefer that he be in Washington to workout ahead of the new NBA season.

  1. Via a crappy google translation, the other part of [the article](https://sportsrabbi.com/%D7%A4%D7%A8%D7%A1%D7%95%D7%9D-%D7%A8%D7%90%D7%A9%D7%95%D7%9F-%D7%94%D7%95%D7%95%D7%99%D7%96%D7%90%D7%A8%D7%93%D7%A1-%D7%A8%D7%95%D7%A6%D7%99%D7%9D-%D7%A9%D7%93%D7%A0%D7%99-%D7%90%D7%91%D7%93%D7%99/) says

    >Apparently, a number of senior Israelis will leave the national team this summer due to reasons like this and others, and now it seems that the 22-year-old forward will not be able to attend either

So it sounds less like he’s going to do it against the Wizards wishes, and more like this is news for the Israeli national team that he’s not going to do it and he’s coming back to the DMV to workout and be with the team. Good move imo, if that’s indeed what happens.

I thought more would be on my side.

I honestly believe that if he were to not play this summer, this would be a massive missed opportunity for Deni, especially being the primary ball-handler for Israel. The amount of improvement that can come from these opportunities cannot be rectified by “working out in D.C.”.

If anyone doesn’t believe me, look at the leap Markannen made after playing for Finland last summer.

Once again, the Wizards are still babying him. Won’t let him play in any summer league the past couple years. Let him play for his country like he did last year.
