Good contract but a big risk hope he stays healthy

Teams just love making one sided trades that favor the Celtics for some reason.

  3. Between Porzingis, Time Lord and Old Horford it’ll be a bitch predicting which bigs will play in each game of a back to back lol

i wonder how celtics fans are feeling about their ball handling next year?

no matter how you slice it, losing Smart is big blow. he was probably the most consistent playmaker on the roster, getting more assists than tatum while touching the ball nearly half as much. Brown has shown his handling will get exposed in the playoffs if he doesn’t improve it, and he’s not shown consistent skill at playmaking yet. and zingus isn’t jokic, unfortunately.

so that kinda leaves u tatum. i’ll say this: if Tatum becomes an exceptional or even just quite good playmaker, a 6-8 assists a night kinda guy, he’s going to have a best player in the league argument. that sort of passing will open his own scoring game significantly, and in an ideal world that would put him pretty much in the top echelon of offensive players. the problem is, that’s like doubling his current assist count when he already has a very high usage rate. it’s a big improvement!

so, y’all celtics fans who watch and study him every game: do you see that happening?

Gonna be interesting to see if he’s available for most of the season. Interesting gamble.

On an expected-games-to-be-played basis, the highest paid players are as follows:

    1. Zion Wiliamson
    2. Anthony Davis
    3. Ben Simmons
    4. LaMelo Ball
    5. Kevin Durant
    6. Kristaps Porzingis

    Honorable mention to Paul George.

Risky. if he stays healthy it’s a good deal. but in the likely event he gets the injury bug? ooof

Dont care if he plays 40 games per year in the regular season

If he is healthy for the playoffs it will be worth it

Despite the injuries 30m a year is low key a steal for porzingis.

What a gigantic waste of money, a massive mistake

  12. Btotherianx

Wow the amount of people in this thread who think that this is a great deal is very concerning.

    This is a monumental mistake

  13. BillowingPillows

This is actually a pretty decent deal for the Celtics given the state of contracts in todays game

Its pretty clear that no one in this thread watched the Wizards last season, which I totally get but… ya’ll are sleeping on KP. He had a very good season.

KP was pretty much healthy with the Wizards, had nicks and bruises as always but no long term injuries. Think he can get to 70 games with Boston and if so they will have a top 5 offense. Very excited to see KP’s shooting around the Jays, think all parties are going to thrive. He and Timelord or Al together in the frontcourt make for a very good interior defensive duo. Porzingis is a great fit in Boston.

The extension makes for a $32M average the next three years ($36M, 30, 30) which for me is fair market value for KP *if* he can remain healthy.

Outside of last season, he has shown that he can’t stay on the court. Neither can Rob and Big Al can’t play back to backs. Everyone seems high on the Celtics, especially Vegas, but as a Celtics fan I just don’t see it.

It’s not like Tatum and Brown are actively working on their deficiencies in the off season, and we lost a good amount of our defense in Smart and Grant. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills as everyone seems so high on us, but I just don’t see it. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Celtics might actually win a championship

    Poor-zingis is now Richzingi$!

  19. Cholecosa

Not worth it, will never be healthy when you need him to be.

  20. How come people are not asking the real questions? Why does KP gets instantly a new contract yet Brown their guy doesnt?

  21. bomonty18

I liked KP. It just didn’t work with the Mavs. Wish it could of.

That being said, hope he can stay healthy.

Makes sense knowing that he’ll miss 30 games a season
