Highlights of Duke Men’s Basketball 4×4 summer scrimmage, featuring the vets (Tyrese Proctor, Jaden Schutt, Ryan Young, Stanley Borden) vs the rooks (Jared McCain, Sean Stewart, Caleb Foster, TJ Power)
This Duke team barring any injuries is going to be really good. I really believe we make the Final 4 this year. Bringing back the trophy seems very likely also TJ Power and Foster are going to be really good
Here is our best lineup: 5 – Kyle 4 – Mitchell 3 – Power 2 – Foster or McCain 1 – Proctor
Now I know you guys are going to say “What about Roach?” but after 3 seasons Roach’s plus/minus is always minus each year. That means teams score on us more than we score while he’s on the court. It’s evident watching him guard (or lack there of) ball screens and dribble penetration. Not to mention he’s not consistent offensively.
Ask yourself this question. If McCain or Foster was playing the 2 last year, would they average more than 13.6PPG on 34% 3 PT shooting??? And 34% is Roach’s best season, also not known as a good shooter in HS whatsoever.
I absolutely bet the over. In fact, both Foster and McCain are better versions of Roach. Foster can attack the paint like Roach but he will create more opportunities at the FT line, he also shot 38% from 3 in HS. McCain can also knock down the mid range shots Roach takes and McCain shot 41% from 3 in HS (where he was constantly double teamed) as well as 90% from the FT line.
And finally, Reeves and Blakes have to be X factors this season. Look we are razor thin at the 5. If Flip gets early foul trouble whose going to protect the paint???? There will be big games where we play Bacot and Burns and you better believe opposing coaches are going to want to attack Kyle if he’s at the 5. Heaven forbid we play Zach Edey and Perdue in the NCAA tournament.
Reeves, Kyle, Mark has to be considered at the 5,4,3 or simply swapping Kyle and Reeves at the 5. Although our most efficient scorer from last season, Ryan Young just isn’t going to cut it defensively and don’t hold your breath on Stewart or Mitchell being effective defensively against grown men at the 5 in competitive matchups.
Finally, Blakes is hands down our best defender at the guard spot. Built like a Mac Truck we have enough firepower on offense to shut down the other team’s best guard with Blakes inserted. Jon Scheyer needs to coach this year like he’s sinking Battleships and playing Chess, not Go Fish and Candyland like how the game went with TN and Rick Barnes out game planned us.
Should be a fun and exciting year. Thanks so much to Duke basketball for providing us the content. They didn’t show much last year because the team was so bad offensively 😅😅😅.

Chemistry looks good for the freshmen. Would love to see them compete against: Roach, Rese, Flip, Mark & Ryan or Christian Reeves

Keep grindin boys! Looking good
R.Young for 3?
Foster can stroke it.
All they need is real game speed and time with the returners and this is a dangerous perimeter team on both sides…
