Monty Williams and the Detroit Pistons have agreed in principle on a six-year, $72 million deal for Williams to become the franchise’s new head coach, sources tell Shams Charania and James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days. Massive salary commitment and a major coup in recruiting the 2022 NBA Coach of the Year to provide a fresh leader and culture to a talented young Detroit roster. Pistons owner Tom Gores and GM Troy Weaver led an aggressive pursuit of Williams that intensified in recent days.

That’s awesome!! It’s not my money. Good on Gores doing what it takes to land a guy like Monty.
❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gores is showing he want to win put his money where his mouth is
I know pistons fan are happy idk why people are talking about 12 mil a year … it’s not against the cap so who cares lol .. he’s the BEST options and a huge upgrade over Dwayne Casey
Damn, and I actually wanted Kevin Ollie. I wanted a good underdog story man. Glad for Monty Williams but it feels like a Phil Jackson to the Knicks type of move XD.
Very high character, patient, smart and the best possible choice for a young team that has real talent. Congratulations!
Thank you Mr. Gores. LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
Is $12M a year that much in the NBA where top players have the opportunity to make $60M a year.
Pistons need to go get mikal bridges
Hes alright! His roatations are awful come playoffs. He only runs 8 guys always. Easy to figure out his game plan.
It's gonna be great to see the Pistons be good again.
I think folks don't take into account that we were actively tanking when they refer to our team and talent. We have good young talent but had alot of injuries last year so with a healthy Cade Livers Bagely and another high draft pick, I am very interested to see how the do next year
Oh here we go. Hire the SPURS guy. Fall in line, just like every other team in the NBA. Eventually, everyone comes calling San Antonio for help. After trashing the Spurs for years, they are the first to come begging for someone, anyone, from the SA organization. Stolen from the Spurs organization are coaches, assistant coaches, film editors, shot adjustors, GM's, Scouts (foreign and domestic), etc. Heck, the only thing left to take from SA are it's fans. Oh crap, the Baseline Bums have just been offered a contract. I was kidding, but who knows.
80% of roster is g leaguers will take a while to turn it around
