Starts at the 36 minute mark:

    Other paraphrased notes:

    >Hector says that Masai has been a teflon don of basketball ops, compares his to Presti, but now Masai may not be having that, and what do the Raptors do from here.

    >**You know how that goes David, new guy in, the next person to go after the coach is the person who put this all together.**

    >**Thorpe says “I was in Vegas talking to teams who are telling me Toronto is looking to trade Pascal, I don’t know what’s public… but I know what teams were telling me, and then they weren’t looking to trade him, that to me tells me that they’ll trade him they’re just waiting for the best deal overall.**””

    >NBA isn’t his only oyster, he has to lock in on what are they doing here.

    >Not even sure you can finish games with Poeltl in the playoffs.

    >**Are you going to turn the ball over to Scottie? That’s what Darko says, I love Barnes as a talent, but he’s going to be a point guard? They’re not a good shooting team to being with.**

    >There’s some real question marks.

    >If they trade Pascal will they get cap space, draft picks, a young player maybe or two to go towards a real rebuild.

    >**Seems to be the more likely scenario but not at all a done deal.**

    >**Pascal said that he loves Toronto, but after what’s happened recently I don’t know if he’ll ever come around, I have no idea it’s a bit of a messy situation.**

    >I talk to people who cover the team, they’re uncomfortable with what’s going on.

    >Hector says that they’re a team of mismatched parts right now.

    >Thorpe says that he thought Masai would extend Pascal, start the season with him and if it’s not clicking go ahead an make some moves

    >**From what I’m hearing recently, it’s not likely, which is weird to me**

Not surprised tbh didn’t that rogers guy not want him back in the first place ? I already know he’s itching for a reason to get masai outa here

  3. lillithfair98

IMO it’s not because of performance, but because Larry Tanenbaum is increasingly looking like he’s planning to cash out on his ownership stake.

Once MLSE is just Rogers/Bell and doesn’t have LT to be the voice of reason, you really wonder if they’re going to justify spending THAT MUCH money on sports executives when in past that media consortium has proven to be nothing but egotistical cheapskates.

The way I see it, everyone eventually reaches their expiration date (most recently Bob Myers from GSW).

Only two front office guys I can think of the top of my head who’s jobs are forever secured until they decide to call it quits are Popovich and Pat Riley and that’s because they’ve built up enough credit to be untouchable lifers.

I’m resigning myself to the future where we are incompetent again. This decade was an aberration, Rogers and Bell will ensure we become a joke again…

Welp this sub has done nothing but scream for Masai’s head for the past two years, guess they’re gonna get their wish

  7. Plantedballer

It’s not weird to not keep Pascal. He’s had years of chances and he’s just not that guy

  8. KratosSmash

Good.. maybe he’ll stop procrastinating, losing players for nothing, and be more pro-active.

I hate MLSE’s management so much.

  10. Life_Of_High

Ed Rogers wasn’t a big fan of Masai when his deal was being renegotiated so I’m not surprised that there may be some turmoil there. At that time there was some discussion around if Masai even still has basketball in Toronto as his number 1 priority or if he wanted to shift to another sport (soccer) or do more philanthropic endeavours through his numerous foundations. Wouldn’t be surprised if Thorpe heard this directly from media members who have been covering the team as Grange and Will Lou both have expressed their lack of confidence in management publicly on their platforms.

We’ll at some point patience turns into indecisiveness. At this point the last few year Masai has been preaching patience but with the constant back and forth he looks like he doesn’t know wtf he wants to do

  12. Legitimate-Row7081

if masai gets fired then toronto needs to band together to go head hunting for ted rogers. He didn’t want masai and i heard he causes problems for the jays as well?

  13. SirMrJames

They better not ditch Masai. He’s our culture right now and he has more wins for us than he does losses.

  14. Decent_Pack_3064

Or maybe Ted leiweke hires ujiri with an ownership stake for the nba expansion in a few years

Ujiri is still a competent president and it would suck to lose him

  15. Rightfully so. He bent MLSE over after the ti6oe and hasn’t done shit since.
